A Cascades frog blends with it's environment in the Hoh Rainforest of Olympic National Park.

The Cascades frog (Rana cascadae) is found on the west coast, primarily in the Cascade Range and Olympic Mountains. A near threatened species, their threats include non-native introduced fish species, habitat loss and climate change.

Happy New Year everyone!

I've taken a long hiatus from photography the last few months, but I'm getting re-inspired. Hoping that the new year brings new photo opportunities and I can start sharing new images with you again.

In the meantime, here's an image of the majestic Mt. Rainier taken this past summer.

I've just recently returned from a trip to, the always photogenic, Washington State. I'm looking forward to sifting thorough my photos and sharing highlights of my trip, including visits to Mt. Rainier and Olympic National Parks.

Here is a photo of me clinging to the mountainside as I try to get "the" shot. Check back tomorrow to see the photo I ended up with!

I grew up within walking distance from a national park which includes this tidal marsh, and not having explored it since I was a child, it was amazing to see how much it has changed and improved over the years.

Recently designated as a Great Florida Birding Trail, the park has worked to enhance the trails, allowing close up views of the marsh and the wildlife that call it home. Between the many varieties of heron and egret, roseate spoonbills, anhingas, cormorants, kingfishers and songbirds, this is a paradise for both casual and serious birdwatchers alike.

With overnight temps reaching nearly below 0 here in the northeast United States, condensation that forms on the inside window pane, begins to freeze into unique, abstract works of art.

I shot this beadlike ice formation last week, from the comfort of a heated room, while the outdoor temperature read 2℉.

A different ice pattern would appear each night, providing an icy photo series that I will be sharing over the next few days.

I had a connecting flight through New York's LaGuardia on a recent trip, and I knew it would provide a great view of the city during landing and take off. I got lucky with my seat assignment, and was provided not just a great view, but a spectacular one.

I was able to capture a perspective of New York City that I had never seen before. The lighting and colors provided an extra touch of elegance.

Without further ado, here is the image I can be seen capturing in the photo I shared yesterday.

En route to the visitor's center at the base of Mt. Rainier are many overlooks offering panoramic views of the mountain. Each stop provides a different vantage point and perspective.
While at this particular viewpoint, I spotted the bright red of the blooming indian paintbrush, just off the side of the mountain. Despite the incline, I couldn't resist getting a photo with the magnificent Mt. Rainier as my backdrop.

Roseate Spoonbill, the newest resident of the tidal marsh.
During each visit, there would be more than 100 roosting at a time, providing amazing photo ops. It's thrilling to see these amazing birds taking up residency in the park.

I'm currently in north Florida, enjoying the variety of bird species specific to the area. It was an exceptionally exciting, nature filled day today, as I was treated to the sight of this male Painted Bunting. The Painted Bunting is currently listed as a near threatened species due to habitat loss by development.
