As young people in Africa prepare to become job seekers and entrepreneurs, how can the employment ecosystem ensure that opportunities are accessible to all?

During this webinar, we will cover the challenges young people face across the lines of gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic background, and ability. The panel will share their perspectives on how the employment and education ecosystem can work toward ensuring that all young people in Africa have access to building prosperous livelihoods. During the live Google+ broadcast, you’ll be able to submit your questions to the group as well!

We’ll discuss questions like: What challenges do young people face when it comes to equal access to jobs and entrepreneurship? What are promising solutions for shifting mindsets around young people that belong to socially excluded groups? What are some exciting emerging fields that are being created by young people and unlocking equal opportunities? How can young people be equipped with the skills and education to ensure that they can overcome barriers and access the jobs of the future?

Panelists:
Meredith Lee - Deputy Director, Youth Livelihoods at The MasterCard Foundation

Vickie Wambura Wamonje - Nafisika Trust (Kenya)

Irene Mutumba - The Private Education Development Network - (Uganda)

Wamuyu Mahinda - Youth Banner (Kenya)

Moderated by:

Agriculture is the age-old occupation in Africa and in many countries well above half of the Gross Domestic Product still comes from agriculture. Unfortunately, young people are not taking part in a way that will best provide current and future employment leading to financial sustainability. The good news is that innovators are helping to shift mindsets around farming and are rebranding agriculture as a “hot” career prospect where young people can seize opportunities as agribusiness leaders powered by 21st century technologies.

During our next Future Forward webinar, we explore how social entrepreneurs and young farmers are helping each other harness opportunities and leapfrog into the information age to shape a more sustainable Africa.

The panel will feature social entrepreneurs, development practitioners and young people discussing how this age-old vocation can be upgraded for the 21st century.
