Still toying around with photospheres and panoramas. Took this one while out on a drive in the 2013 Lexus LS F-Sport. Stood a bit too close to line up the railing.

Having tried both, I find that landscape works best for photospheres and portrait works best for panoramas (though I doubt there's any real difference between the orientations aside from preference).

Either way, you're exactly right about standing farther away from objects. The closer things are to the lens, the more that parallax causes them to distort when the software stitches the images together.
