Google is switching to Netty from Jetty as the foundation for a high performance webserver stack optimized for real-time bidding.

Performance numbers:

Netty: Handles 20,000 qps at 57% CPU load, with latency percentiles 50%=5ms, 85%=8.5ms, 90%=9ms, 95%=9.5ms, 99%=10ms. Zero error rate.

Jetty: Handles 8,500 qps at 44% CPU load, with latency percentiles 50%=5ms, 85%=8.5ms, 90%=9ms, 95%=9.5ms, 99%=~35ms. Error rate is minimal but not zero (~2 timeouts per second).

Announcing Guava 17.0-rc2

Guava 17.0-rc2 (yes, rc2) is now available in Maven Central as com.google.guava:guava:17.0-rc2. The JDK5 backport is also available, as com.google.guava:guava-jdk5:17.0-rc2. See the release notes for more information on what's in this release: https://code.google.com/p/guava-libraries/wiki/Release17

Note: If you're using BloomFilters in a specific way, there may be an additional step you need to take as part of upgrading to Guava 17. See https://code.google.com/p/guava-libraries/wiki/Release17#A_note_on_BloomFilter for more information.

Anyway, please try upgrading and testing this release candidate and let us know how it goes. If no problems are reported, the final 17.0 release will happen in the next week or so.

Enjoy!
