Milestone for Amgeek

2000th Computer Serviced

Somewhere around the turn of the century it occurred to me that this “computer repair” thing I was working at might stick around for a while. So, I thought it would be interesting to keep track of how many different computers I had worked on. Early this month the count officially hit 2000!

The job was setting up Rick Benas's new Dell laptop. I have been working on Benas family computers longer than I have been keeping track of how many machines I have serviced. Rick, Adam and Jeanne probably account for 5 or 6 of the 2000.

Incidentally, Jeanne (Mrs) Benas is the artist behind the Amgeek logo mouse. Often published court artist, illustrator and caricaturist, you can see more of Jeanne's work at www.benasart.com and www.facebook.com/BenasArt

And you thought all I did was chase computer virus.
After being ignored, laughed at, hung up on, and ignored (by at least 3 other supervisors/official) up to and including the local Board of Education I caught this call "on tape".

Windows Update error 0x80246002. Heads need to roll.

Banging away at some Windows update problems this weekend and found the answer was Google. Yes, I found the answer using Google but the answer actually turned out to be Google - DNS

Changing the machines static DNS to 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4 solves the problem - at least for now.

Not a good month for Microsoft :(

Are you having as much trouble as I am figuring out Facebook? Should you be using Twitter or Google+ instead. Here is a well produced video featuring four very tech savvy guys having a lively discussion on the benefits and weakness of each with a healthy helping of very usable tips.
