Learning that happens through play – self-directed, informal, cross-disciplinary – may help shape the spaces, programs, and services of the #libraryofthefuture
#libraries
Play is often the domain of young children, but as those kids become teens, learning playfully maintains its importance, especially as academics and competitive sports take over.

Has your #libraryofthefuture used a hackathon to bring together different people with different skills and abilities to propose a solution to a problem?
The hackathon, a hands-on, solution-based development model with similarities to PBL, inquiry-based learning, STEAM, and design thinking, could become the ideal 21st-century learning opportunity.

As journalists and other content creators develop VR content, how can the #libraryofthefuture position itself to support access, creation, and collaboration?
People are adopting technology a lot faster than before, says Robert Hernandez, so when it comes to VR publishers need to make sure they don't miss the (virtual) boat

Promoting library service and librarianship
Introduction

The American Library Association (ALA) is the oldest and largest library association in the world, providing association information, news, events, and advocacy resources for members, librarians, and library users.

Founded on October 6, 1876 during the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, the mission of ALA is to provide leadership for the development, promotion, and improvement of library and information services and the profession of librarianship in order to enhance learning and ensure access to information for all.

On our g+ page, anyone with something to contribute is invited to participate in the comments. There are only a few basic rules:

  • * Please stay on topic.
  • * No defamatory remarks about other people.
  • * No advertisements or spam.
  • * No politics external to ALA.
  • * No organizing boycotts.

Content violating these rules will be removed. These rules are necessary to respect each other and to maintain ALA’s nonprofit status, but they still leave a lot of room for active sharing, so please join in!
