A great building study published by +BD on Farnham Place, the new extended offices for +Allies and Morrison, which has received very positive feedback from the public, especially those within the Southwark area.

Allies and Morrison’s project for a 41-storey residential tower in Elephant and Castle have been approved by London Mayor Boris Johnson. The decision means developer Englewood can press on with plans to build the 335-home block on the site of Eileen House.

The development which will include 65 shared ownership flats, sits within the Elephant and Castle Opportunity Area – one of 33 areas designated by the Mayor as being ripe for housing and other developments.

Johnson said: ‘This scheme will deliver much-needed housing in Elephant and Castle while ensuring that the Ministry of Sound, one of London’s leading cultural and musical icons, can continue to thrive for years to come.'

Our outline proposals for Westfield Croydon received unanimous approval and high praise at the council's strategic planning committee on Monday night.

+Hammersonplc and +Westfield UK are to come together to transform Croydon's Whitgift and Centrale shopping centres.

The scheme now has to go to the London mayor's office for final approval.

Detailed designs for the scheme will be unveiled next year and building work could begin in 2015.

Part of the plans include a skills centre in the hope that many of the 5000 potential jobs would go to local people.

The scheme would see retail, leisure facilities and restaurants open and 600 new residential units built.

There is still time to see an exhibition held by CAA featuring new technologies used by both craftsmen and architectural modelmakers.

The exhibition investigates how these technologies influence and change the aesthetic demands of various creative disciplines.

The exhibition runs until 09 November 2013.

An architecture and urban planning practice based in London
Introduction
Allies and Morrison is an architecture and urban planning practice based in London. Founded by Bob Allies and Graham Morrison in 1984, it now operates from its own studios in Southwark Street, the RIBA London Building of the Year 2004.

The practice has completed projects throughout the UK and is currently undertaking work in Germany, India, Egypt and Qatar.

Allies and Morrison brings to all its projects the same rigorous approach that places importance on the way buildings work, the way they are made, and the public spaces they generate.

Recent projects include the restoration of the Royal Festival Hall and the new planetarium at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, new office buildings in White City for the BBC, One Piccadilly Gardens Manchester for Argent, Sheffield city centre for CTP St James and Bankside for Land Securities, education buildings for the University of Cambridge and the University of Bath, and new accommodation for Girton College and Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge.

The practice is currently carrying out major residential projects for Explore Living, Berkeley Homes and Barratt Homes and new retail led city centre projects in Oxford, Winchester and Hereford. It has also prepared the masterplans for King’s Cross Central, Brent Cross Cricklewood and the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The practice was named ‘Masterplanning Architect of the Year’, ‘Public Building Architect of the Year’ and overall ‘Architect of the Year’ in the 2007 Building Design Awards.
