Security is a concern across the IT environments of large enterprises, and recent large-scale data breaches have thrown the issue further into the spotlight. In our survey of 1500 senior IT decision makers, conducted by Penn Schoen Berland (PSB), the importance of security was a recurring theme that touched on nearly every aspect of the organization’s IT strategy.

Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys might have sung about Good Vibrations in 1964, but for railways, and their neighbours, vibrations are usually anything but good.

Vibrations in the railway environment are induced by interactive forces at the wheel-rail interface, which cause track components like rails and sleepers to move and transmit vibrations, or Rayleigh waves, into the ground.

On November 23, the World Economic Forum published an open letter signed by 78 global CEOs pressing leaders at COP21 to achieve agreement on the actions necessary to create a sustainable future.  Along with my fellow signatories, I strongly believe that a combination of private enterprise and government efforts will be the most effective way to make the global changes necessary to mitigate the damage of carbon emissions. Delaying action is not an option.

On November 4th, CDP (the Carbon Disclosure Project) presented an award to both Philippe Guillemot (Alcatel-Lucent Chief Operating Officer) and I on behalf of Alcatel-Lucent. It was announced that Alcatel-Lucent had achieved a perfect score of 100 and was a member of the CDP A-List.

As is the case for many ICT companies, Alcatel-Lucent is recruiting from talent pools where women are scarce. This meant that at the end of 2014, women made up only 24% of our workforce.
