What mom wants to deliver her babies early?

It sure wasn't my plan to have our twin daughters at just 25 weeks and 5 days. I would have given ANYTHING to have stayed pregnant months, weeks, even days longer.

During the first year of our son's life we searched for a reason why he had low muscle tone, delayed development and feeding difficulties that required a feeding tube - but still failed to thrive. Days were filled with early intervention, symptom management, surgeries, diagnostic testing, hospitalizations and therapies. His routine genetic test results were normal.

As I “turn out the lights” and close the door to the NICU for the last time, I pause to reflect. Despite the melancholy, the sense of excitement overwhelms.

When you’re the parent of a NICU graduate and you hear that the unit your baby was in is moving to a new space where each family will have a private room, it almost makes you want to come back. Almost. Unless you’ve had a baby in the NICU, I’m not sure that you can fully understand what having your very own room means.
