Despite the fact many consumers share similar online safety concerns; a recent study from Lavasoft revealed that those booking travel online continue to place higher priority on working within a limited budget than their online security. Of the more than 500 consumers surveyed regarding their experiences with common summer travel booking habits, online risks and security practices, approximately 60 percent have received fake discounted or free vacation offers. #spyware #malware #hackers #phishing #IoT  +Information Security Buzz

This week #Facebook is introducing its new #SecurityCheckuptool for web-based users. The tool highlights the social media site’s existing arsenal of #security options, prompting users to address potential threats item-by-item. Combined with the previously released #PrivacyCheckuptool, the social media giant is attempting to force its billions of users to look under the hood of their Facebook account and ensure a greater level of access and #privacy control.

A #security researcher has posted a video on YouTube demonstrating how a device he made can intercept wireless communications to locate, unlock and remotely start GM vehicles that use the #OnStar RemoteLink mobile app. Samy Kamkar, who refers to himself as a #hacker and whistleblower, posted the video today showing him using a device he calls #OwnStar. The device, he said, intercepts communications between #GM's OnStar RemoteLink mobile app and the OnStar cloud service. #WhiteHatHacker #vulnerability

All information has potential value to hackers. The latest example: A reported #breach of network #security at #UnitedAirlines that swept up flight manifests. Yes, just lists of people on an airplane. The purported hacking group, believed to be affiliated with #China , appears to be triangulating United customers' movements. Combined with background check information stolen from the government and medical records stolen from Anthem, experts say the group is stockpiling information on intelligence officers. #FederalGovernment #hackers #hacked #databreach #cyberattack  +CNET

#Microsoft announced that #Windows10 will support the Fast Identity Online 2.0 protocol, allowing biometric authentication in the form of facial, fingerprint or retina scanning. Windows 10 has incorporated the feature and called it Microsoft Hello. Furthermore, Microsoft has bundled Windows 10 with its new web browser, Edge. Edge is not entirely all-new. Its HTML rendering engine is a forked version of Trident (the engine found in Internet Explorer), which is now called Microsoft Edge HTML. #Securityfeatures

A new whitepaper reveals that a hacking gang known as #BlackVine shared certain #zeroday exploits with other digital espionage groups. Black Vine is known to have used two zero-day exploits, as part of watering-hole attacks, which the groups members used to deliver #malware to visitors to legitimate websites. In the event that their attacks proved successful, the attackers then dropped their own custom malware onto the victim's machine. #breached #cyberattackers #vulnerability #security  +Graham Cluley
The Black Vine hacking gang that attacked the aerospace industry, and healthcare firms such as Anthem, shared its zero-day exploits with other digital espionage groups, according to a new report.

Solutionary performed a broad analysis of the threat landscape, which unearthed several key findings. They identified several campaigns targeting the bash #vulnerability during the latest quarter - more than 600,000 events from 138 countries. #Cybercriminals are preying on existing vulnerabilities, including #Shellshock, to plan future attacks. Despite the flurry of #databreaches and targeted attacks, enterprises are failing to practice good security hygiene to mitigate and prevent similar attacks. #hackers #malware #cybersecurity

A recently disclosed #vulnerability in #Bind, the most widely used software for translating human-friendly domain names into IP addresses used by servers, makes it possible for lone-wolf attackers to bring down huge swaths of the #Internet, a #security researcher has warned. Attackers can exploit it by sending vulnerable servers a malformed packet that's trivial to create. Vulnerable servers, in turn, will promptly crash. #DNS #LoneWolfHacker #Hackers #flaw #cybersecurity
Latest critical bug in widely used DNS server underscores its fragility.

Bad week for #Android . Just days after a critical #Stagefright #vulnerability was revealed in the widely popular mobile platform, another new vulnerability threatens to make most Android devices unresponsive and practically unusable to essential tasks. Researchers have developed an attack technique that could ultimately #crash more than 55 percent of #Androidphones , almost making them completely unresponsive and useless to perform very basic functions, including to make or receive calls. #exploit #attackers #Smartphones #security  +The Hacker News

Inboxes are currently being hit by emails claiming to contain an attached voice message. The attachments do not contain a voice message. Instead, they contain malware. If you open the attachment, it may install #malware designed to steal account passwords and other information from your computer. It may also download and install other types of malware such as #ransomware . +Hoax-Slayer

#Malware , the destructive software that sneaks onto your computer and helps #hackers breach important systems -- usually has a tell. While it's running on your computer, it doesn't act like you do, and that's how #security systems often detect it. While antivirus software and other malware detection programs might clean up other bad files from our computers, this one's likely to stay silently at work. The malware is called #Hammertoss , and it is being used by a hacking group sponsored by the #Russian government. #attacks #vulnerabilities #cybercriminals  +CNET
