Suiting Up for the Moon

How will cows survive on the Moon? One of the most vexing questions asked about space, scientists have spent decades debating this key issue. Finally, after extensive computer modeling and over a dozen midnight milkings, engineers have designed, built, and now tested the new Lunar Grazing Module (LGM), a multi-purpose celestial bovine containment system. By now, many of you will not be surprised to be wished a Happy April Fool's Day from APOD. To the best of our knowledge, there are no current plans to launch cows into space. For one reason, cows tend to be large animals that don't launch easily or cheaply. As friendly as cows may be, head-to-head comparisons show that robotic rovers are usually more effective as scientific explorers. The featured image is of a thought-provoking work of art named "Mooooonwalk" which really is on display at a popular science museum.

National Dog Fighting Awareness Day is April 8th!

We've enjoyed a bond with canines that spans thousands of years and must decide to collectively end this practice which greatly dishonors that bond.

We're partnering with +WWE Diva AJ Lee to #GetTough on dog fighting! Join the campaign and help end this cruel sport! Get involved:  http://goo.gl/Le6LQY

We the people never seem to learn from history...
Early in the afternoon of Monday, February 23–the day following the anniversary of George Washington’s birth—North Dakota Republican John Hoeven rose from his seat, walked to the podium of the U.S. Senate, and began to read George Washington’s “Farewell Address.” In his seminal good-bye to the nation, the first...

Introduction
Likes punk rock. Hates punk rockers.

Voracious reader, but not into the classics. Dickens and Dostoevsky and Camus bore me to sleep. Give me a good history book or the biography of some old iconoclast. Or a science fiction novel.

Secular Humanist. Atomist. Animal lover (especially dogs). Obsessed with running. And beer.

Picture your favorite bar and mesh it with your favorite street food joint. Tons of ways to eat sausages and vegetarian versions of them all. The Kilig is in a class all its own. The pints are all top notch and well priced. The Vanguard is why Milwaukee. Period. Worth the trip every time.

Was surprised to first find this place in my neighborhood. Very glad it's there. Lots of delicious food specials and combinations and you always get a generous portion of everything which, for the price, makes it my favorite place in Norridge/Harwood Heights. Also - probably the best falafel recipe of anywhere I've tried in the Chicago metro area. Perfect mix of savory, crunchy and fluffy on the inside and you can tell they know this because you'll get a piece handed to you when you wander in. Best of all, they are really nice! I've always been treated like a valued customer and the people there are eager to be my food tour guides, when there's something I haven't tried yet. I haven't even mentioned the bakery... well done!

Big fan of the beers, and the Thai pizza is remarkable (but no sriracha? are you kidding?). I kinda wish they weren't so uptight about serving the pickled watermelon. Let me get a bowl of that to go! Came with the wings which.. .not my thing. But the real reason for going here is the beer and I don't know if there's a better mix of top tier beers anywhere on Earth than the seasonal selection of 3 Floyds. I couldn't not drink the Zombie Dust like it was my last ever and the selection of both beer and food on the menu certainly guarantees many returns.

I always consider going here to be a real treat and am especially excited about having a change of work schedule, because with Sundays off, I can finally try their pozole. If you think a vegetarian menu would be severely limited, this restaurant needs to be your first stop. I've made it a point to try something different every time I come here (with the exception of the Tamale Oaxacaena, which is a MUST) and every time, I'm astounded by how good my order is. Far and away one of my favorite restaurants in the city and it's all because of the food.

Was very happy to find this place when I took a trip to Port Huron. Their in-house selection of brews was well informed and pitch perfect on the taste buds. I hope next time I find myself in these parts, to put a visit here at the top of my list.

How is it that my all my favorite beers are coming from the same brewery? Gatecrasher and Smittytown are two of the most astounding things to come from a can in my entire beer drinking life. As soon as they can that Black IPA they do (yes I know, a contradiction in terms), I may have to retire from public life. In the meantime, hitting this place for drinks gives me a crack at some darn good beers. This place totally redeems Evanston for years of that silly temperance movement. The location is not my favorite though - very hard to give people directions to it.
