Identify a problem today, design and manufacture a robot to help tomorrow
An ambitious new project led by Professor Daniela Rus, of MIT’s CSAIL, aims to democratize access to robots (http://goo.gl/k17kr
). It currently takes years to build an operational robot— Rus and team are developing technology to reinvent the way they’re designed and produced, and put a customizable manufacturing process into the hands of everyday people. Their research is focused on automating production and reducing development time, which could open doors to a diverse set of potential applications. The below video shows the first devices to be prototyped: a robotic gripper to assist people with limited mobility and a robotic insect to explore contaminated spaces.
