In early 2013, three departments in Daqing (China) combined together, named as Daqing Culture, Sport and Travel Group. Logo is the primary request for the group. Z Square Studio submitted three design concepts for the logo design campaign.

Design #1: The shape of the logo comes from the traditional tangram and three colours stand for three departments. The white space inside the tangram made up the word “Wen” (means culture in Chinese), and the English characters “T” and “L”. At the same time, it is also the shape of a running man, gives the meaning of catching up to the lovely present and running to the great future.

Design #2: In this design, the three-waved-strokes come from left to right and merge together into one, which means the three divisions combined together and the power will as strong as the sea wave. The logo likes a huge cruise that means the new department will ship the city to the new future. Moreover, this logo also looks like the math symbol of infinity that define as there will be a great many impossible things become possible.

Design #3: In this design, the three strokes merged together and become one-stroke means three departments combine together and become one unit. Moreover, four-strokes together look like the eagle’s eye, which means perspicacious notices quickly, look far ahead and aim high. Furthermore, the shape of the logo looks like a sailboat. It means the department has the ability to make the city’s dreams come true.

The 2011 York/Sheridan Grad Show website, The RGD Web Design and Applied Arts awards winning project, was a self promotional project. The website used an innovative custom content management system allowing students submitting and editing their own projects and biographies. Unique horizontal page scrolling was employed to view additional contents, echoing the visual identity and creating a memorable user experience. Sorting system was used to display the students list and design works.

This group project involved with five people from York/Sheridan Design Programs. The general idea of the website was showcasing 2011 design program graduation students' portfolios, promoting the Grad Show, and attracting design industry professionals to come to the show and willing to hire someone to the team.

We decided to use some random shapes under the "YSDN & Co." logo, and gave each student equal chance to let people view their work online. The horizontal page scrolling was pioneer design concept at that time and we decided to take the challenge.

If Exhibition was a self-holding exhibition in 2011 with the theme of 'migration'. The exhibition chose one of the path to extend the meaning of migration. For If Exhibition, I would like to show the migration in China from rural places to large cities. These people in Chinese called farmer-workers. They want like to gain more money in large cities with their hard labour working. However, they only get less than one third of the average payment in large cities. In this exhibition, I used stories and photos to show the China rural migrants current living ans social conditions through posters, catalog book, and bookmarks. There are six categories I defined in the exhibition: job opportunities, social security, public health, housing problems, gender discrimination, and children education.

http://www.zsquarestudio.com/design/basic-baking-soda-square.php

The Basic baking soda packaging design was initially begun with the idea of using small box to hold baking soda for users’ convenience. According to the market research, consumers need the baking soda with smaller package. Moreover, the baking soda box itself, can be used functionally as a container rather than a ‘package’ only. The mission of Basic baking soda packaging design was to create small-size multilingual container-liked boxes for baking soda.

The reason of naming the baking soda brand as “BASIC” is because it refers to a daily normal product and the packaging is designed with basic shapes. The product is available in eight languages, which include French, Spanish, German, Dutch, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Korean, and Japanese. The choice of color represents the background and the culture within the specific target region. The basic cube-shaped box can be used as a container individually. The transparent window on top of the cubic provide the consumers the ability to see-through the product. Basic baking soda is available with small package and large package. In this way, consumers will have more options to choose.

Hospital education brochures were requested by Daiqng People's Hospital Maternity and Children Care Division in 2013. There are three brochures including in the design package: Prevention for the transmission of AIDS through mother to child, Prevention for the transmission of hepatitis B, and prevention for the transmission of syphilis through mother to child. All of the contents are in Simplified Chinese. So far, the brochures have been printed for more than 5,000 copies.

The routine way of designing hospital brochure in China is using a photography in front, in this case, a laughing baby with his or her mother, and a hospital building behind them. I would like to break the rule and introduce something different for this project. Therefore, I decided to use illustrated characters and vector images for this brochure.

Three colours applied for three brochures, purple for AIDS brochure, orange for hepatitis B brochure, and blue for syphilis brochure. Three abstract mother huge baby images were designed and put on the brochure cover. AIDS and hepatitis B brochures are tri-fold and the syphilis brochure is double parallel reverse fold for more content. In each brochure, colour was highlighted for each individual section. education diagrams were made into vector.
