As mentioned yesterday, I was trying to port +Paranoid Android 's Notification Peek to an apk and install it to my stock KitKat rom. Currently it works on my Nexus 5 (it only works on KitKat), but I'm not sure if it will work on other devices.

If you're interested, feel free to grab the apk from the link. I'll also throw the code to Github when ready...

Update: Here's the link to github: https://github.com/lzanita09/NotificationPeekPort. I'll also update the apk there.

It only works in 4.4, as I mentioned in the post.

It works on N4. But the notifications disappear too fast.

+Amit Shri Kulkarni That's right, currently I use PA's default settings, which is 5 seconds. I'll add an option later

+Zhe Lu just installing the apk is ok? my rom has active display, so will it complicate with active display?

Works on Note 3 and S4, but not on my Note 10.1 2014. All running stock =)

I'm on cm11, must it be installed as an system app? If i install it right the way, peek doesn't comes up if a notification arrives :/

edit: i have a samsung galaxy s3 ;)

yes same here i can install it on MotoG stock 4.4.2...settings doesnt work...and unfortunately peek doesn't comes up..
is Gyro the problem?

Thanks but Device administration crashing on note 2
Zhe Lu

+abu obayda Notification Peek is actually a light_weight active display, I don't know if either one will take over the screen when there's a notification coming...But I guess only one will work in that situation.
Zhe Lu

+Marcel Bolte Just install as a normal app, I already remove or change use of system APIs.

+Luca C The app does require gyro and proximity sensors to work. I'll try to find a work around.
Zhe Lu

+Graham Boyle Is it crashed when asking for device administration? If the device has both gyro and proximity sensors, the app will work, it wakes up the screen and shows notifications, it just can't lock screen again as it requires device administration

Works for me on LG G2 running the latest slimkat weekly. Good work man!

+Zhe Lu yeah crashes to black screen even when I do a manual selection of device administration. I'll give it another try and see how it runs .. Thanks for the info..😊

Is there somewhere other than your page that we can follow progress (i.e. Community)
Zhe Lu

I think I'll upload the code to Github soon. And I'll also post things here directly.

works fine on my nexus 5. Thanks

You need to deactivate the app in device administration and notification access first before uninstalling it.

Silly question, but is root required?
Zhe Lu

+Chase Stowell The app has some problem with moto devices, I talked to another moto G user about similar issue this morning. What I know about it is the app can't wake up the screen automatically.

working fine on my nexus 4, very promising app. Please add an option to send a test notification and to increase the notification time

Not working for me on Note 3  4.4.2. :<

No dice on the GNex running CM11. Can install, can enable notification and device access, but no Peek.

Would like to try this once you get this working on motox

Works great, but maybe a stupid question: how do I delete it?

+Chase Stowell I doubt it you could use floatifications to have the notification but the only way you'll get a floating window is with the xposed module xhalo. Hover is implemented much more deeply in the ROM and really needs to be baked in. Plus its not even been released yet wait till its finished.

Works fine on SGS i9000 with DirtyUnicorns 4.4.2 kk and inactive active display

It was installed on my lg g2 with 4.4.2 stock of lg UI, but doesn't work.

What is so great about this? It just does what Notifier Pro has been doing for years now only NP does it better and with infinitely more options.

I'll try to add a test notification and let it diagnose problems. Then we can fix them accordingly.
Zhe Lu

Deactivate on device administrator, uncheck on notification access, uninstall.

Works on my Z Ultra running its stock 4.4.2, no root access.

Works on GT-N7000 running CM 4.4.2

+Naim Berisha I'm trying to add a diagnosis feature to help me figure out what goes wrong.

+Zhe Lu thanks for your great job!

Works on GT-I9300 running CM 4.4.2 but...

The setting options doesn't work and please add possibility to increase the notification time (if possible infinite time).

Good Work!!!

Galaxy Note 3 running Stock ROM 4.4.2 from Bell Mobility in Canada, works for me! Thanks a lot!!!

Edit: model is SM-N900W8
Zhe Lu

Guys, check out the Github project link.

+Simone Mammana De Meo  good idea " please add possibility to increase the notification time (if possible infinite time)."  this would help the Moto G ( falcon )  too

+Zhe Lu sorry but i don't understand. :-D

Settings doesn't work only on my device or it isn't active in any device?

Sorry for my bad English.

Anyway good luck for your work! ;-)

Working on my galaxysmtd with kitkat, not well but it works

Working on my rooted stock 4.4.2 N4, but if I don't touch the screen within the timeout, it crashes the app.

The settings button, I can confirm with the others, does not work properly but it otherwise is amazing

This is awesome. Works on my stock Nexus 5. Haven't tested while phone has been in pocket yet. Works great when picking up from table

Anyone else not able to press the install button? Having trouble installing it on a Nexus 5 running 4.4.2.

+Zhe Lu Yeah, I can press the Cancel button, but not the Install button. Do you think it's a problem with custom DPI settings since I've had a similar issue for a different app?

Sweeeet! Thanks a bunch.

Works on Nexus 5 running Carbon Rom nightly 5-1

Not work on Motorola Moto G 4.4.2
Corry H

+Zhe Lu Now how about pie controls and or hover?
Corry H

Not working on Nexus 5 running Purity ROM.

Installed it and nothing happens. Open the app and enable the first setting, when I enable the device access ones nothing happens. After this I just get normal notifications.

Nexus 5, 4.4, ART, unrooted.

Can install on my Dev edition m8 but it doesn't work when I get a notification. Thanks for the effort regardless

Installs fine and permissions granted okay, but no settings on SlimKat GS4.

Edit: NVM had to disable Daydream, duh lol
Zhe Lu

There's an update available in the github project releases page.

I downloaded from there... When did you release it?
Zhe Lu

Maybe an hour ago.

Is the update out? The Google drive file is from 1.5.14

Hi, it doesn't work on my Nexus 5 stock: i've enabled both the options inside the app... how should it being showed? I didn't understand. Oh, the settings command doesn't work. Thanks.
P.S. How could install it from github?

Done thanks. I've tryed "test notification", but it doesn't appear on my N5 screen... i can see it only when I open the "notification center"... How it should be showed?

Edit: Tested and it works only without Covers lockscreen.
or... boh, i don't know wtf happens, sometimes it works, sometimes not... :|
Zhe Lu

It is the same as PA's notification peek, when a notification comes, within 10 seconds it detects where you device is, and wake up the phone when it is not in pocket or on table.

+Viral Jogani Do you run any screen filter app? Night mode, or a sidebar launcher or any overlay type of app? They almost always muck with the install button.

+Cadell Vas I have Lux, but it doesn't have an overlay of any sort that I know of. I'll try disabling it and installing the app.

I tested it on my sgs5 and it works fine but when a notification arrives and the phone vibrates reads it as a movement and activates the display.

what do you think might affect the battery?
Zhe Lu

+Natale Cioffi I haven't done comprehensive battery test, but I guess it won't affect much, the use of sensors are limited.

ok thanks I will test it for a week and will let you know!

Testing on CM11 M6 and peek isn't working. The test notification turns the screen off and it never comes back on unless I manually do it. When I do, I see the notification on the center of the screen. +Zhe Lu would logcats help?

Edit: Working on Sense 6 for M7, just needed a reboot

Hi. Not working properly for my Motorola Moto g. stock 4.4.2...settings also doesnt work .
Zhe Lu

+Sujoy Chowbey There's some issue with the app running on Moto G, I haven't figured it out yet.

AT&T (D800) LG G2 running CM M6 - I can install it and activate the two permissions/settings it needs but the actual settings menu within the app doesn't work and Peek itself doesn't pickup notifications.
Zhe Lu

+Mike Norris The settings should work now if you use the latest version in github.

+Zhe Lu tried latest version on github. Enabled settings. Settings menu worked. Rebooted and still no wakey/workey :(

Galaxy S3 (I9300) with OmniRom (Android 4.4), and I don't get what it should show. It just shows simple notifications on the lock screen... Can you please show a screenshot/video?

+Zhe Lu Thanks for replying. That's not what I saw. Maybe it doesn't work on my case. Anyway, I think I prefer the way it was shown on other roms, as shown here: [ROM] Paranoid SaberDroid + Lockscreen Notifications . This way, you can see the whole notification when you need to , and also dismiss it by swiping. I think I saw this on Pac-Rom.

+Zhe Lu Just a normal notification on the notification bar. Tested on OmniRom , on my SGS3 (I9300). I'm not sure what I'm supposed to see. Should I see the notification like on the Paranoid Rom ?
EDIT: oh now I see it. It's an icon in the middle. but what can I do with it, and why didn't I see it before?
Zhe Lu

+Liran Barsisa Tapping the icon brings you to the app. The core feature is to use sensors to light up your screen automatically when there's notification.

+Zhe Lu I see. Wouldn't it also mean the app needs to constantly poll at least one of those sensors ? Also, have you seen the other way to show the notifications?
Zhe Lu

+Liran Barsisa That depends on whether you want it to listen all the time. And even listening all the time doesn't actually drain battery.

Works! in my Moto X rom stock 4.4.2 Telcel Mexico. Good Job +Zhe Lu :)
