Check out my band and vote for us! We are in the running for $25,000 and your vote is what does it. You can vote as much as once an hour for the next 88 days. But any vote will be greatly appreciated.

417 Magazine is looking for the "Best of" in 417 land. Would you mind taking a moment to vote for Human Anyway (my band) as the best local band and then forward it out to other people? There are a lot of other categories, but you don't have to answer any you don't want to.

Check out my band, Human Anyway, and download our song "Dear Child (For Joplin Missouri)." All of the proceeds to go help out the students in Joplin recover from the tornado. You can download the song on iTunes, Amazon, or CD Baby.

Human Anyway fans! You are hearing it first! We are getting ready to start our second album and need your help to get us there. You can be a part of our second album by pledging toward the album. For a minimum of $10 you can be a part of this project, which will get you the digital download once the album is finished. Thanks for your support! http://bit.ly/oc6tpe

We are amazed and humbled! YOU...all of YOU voted us #1 in the SGF Local Live with Brett Johnston. We need you to keep us there! Email SGFLocalLive@gmail.com and vote for "Prodigal" by Human Anyway for the week of Aug. 7-13. Let's see if you can keep us in the top spot!

We really can't express what this means to us. It's been a long crazy road, and we have some awesome news coming in the next few weeks. Thanks for sticking with us!

Ok here are some serious comments:
1. Better website that fully integrates with FaceBook, Google+, and Twitter. By integrates, I mean allows people to comment and collaborate on your site using their various social networking accounts.
2. Actually updating Twitter and Facebook with daily updates from all your bandmates. Simply sending out your dates with not foster an audience. You grow an audience by starting a conversation with the few followers/fans you have and build on that.
3. Start a podcast. The band and a laptop with a $100 USB mic will allow you to create freely downloadable songs/writing sessions/jam sessions for people to access via your site. Even iTunes will allow you submit your podcast for free for download.
4. Collaborate with your stake holders. Get with every church youth pastor in your area. Send them music and offer to play their youth services or other events. Sell CDs or your iTunes download link at the door.
5. Start signing people up. In your website and at your gigs have people sign up for a newsletter from your site. Dane Cook took his site's newsletter from 8 years ago and used it to sell tickets to entire stadiums. Actually send out the newsletter with links to your music monthly without fail.
6. Network. You know this one. Get business cards and hand them out everywhere. $80 gets you a 1000 professional cards that can lead to someone discovering you. Find out the labels that cover your band's niche and the reps that cover your niche. Invite them to all your shows and send them your music. It's their job to find talent. Don't make them come to you.
7. Or Forget the labels. Build your own fan base and sell directly to them. Pearl Jam has been selling concert live albums without label distribution for years. When you start taking care of your first 100 fans you'll know how to get a 1000 which will lead to 10000. Imagine selling 1000 CDs without having to give a cut to anyone.
