There was a good re-freeze last night, and by 7.30 this morning every keen young skier in the Savoie was race-training on the Pisaillas glacier.

Will this brilliant winter ever finish? Last night Val d'Isère had fresh snow and it was cold enough to run the snow cannons on the nursery slopes. Today there's wall to wall sunshine, but -10º to keep the snow firm.

Great conditions for the "World Monoski Championships", which took place yesterday in the ValPark. A few rather unsporting people had actually practised, but we are proud to say that YSE chalet girls Juey and Edie hadn’t. This, the second gate, was the last time either of them was upright before they slid across the finish line flat on their faces. 80s dress was obligatory..

This is our chalet girl Lauren performing a very brave indy grab.

But Val d'Isère isn't all about expert off-pisters with icicles in their beards. There are hundreds of kilometres of wonderful slopes for beginners and intermediates, and dozens of large and small ski schools to help you get the most out of your skiing and boarding. This nine-year-old is oblivious of Mont Blanc in the distance as she concentrates on perfecting her turns!

We've had good skiing all season in Val d'Isère, and the latest 60cm snowfall has made it even better!

The nursery slopes in the village are looking good - don't believe what you read in the press!

One of the narrowest, gnarliest, nastiest bits of piste in Val d’Isère, where the challenging Rhône-Alpes ladies’ downhill piste leads to the humbling Combe Martin, has been widened, using tree trunks. Val d’Isère is very green nowadays, preferring natural materials to good old concrete. (What better way, you cynics might ask, to protect the forest than by chopping down some trees?)
