There’s an Android peeing on Apple on Google Maps
He's in Pakistan... it appears the change was added via Google’s Map Maker tool and somehow slipped past the approval process(https://twitter.com/passy/status/591571520620736512).

The smell had actually been described already by a small perfumery industry operating out of India, which had successfully captured and absorbed the scent in sandalwood oil. They called it “matti ka attar” or “Earth perfume”. But its source was still unknown to science.

What's the Smell of Rain? Oil. Yes--Oil!

It's universal, that smell of rain. Nearly every human who has ever lived, knows it.

From EarthSky, we have an explanation of what it is, and it's not what you think.

From the article

The word is “petrichor,” and it’s used to describe the distinct scent of rain in the air. Or, to be more precise, it’s the name of an oil that’s released from the Earth into the air before rain begins to fall.

This heady smell of oncoming wet weather is something most people are familiar with – in fact, some scientists now suggest that humans inherited an affection for the smell from ancestors who relied on rainy weather for their survival.

By steam distilling rocks that had been exposed to warm, dry conditions in the open, they discovered a yellowish oil – trapped in rocks and soil but released by moisture – that was responsible for the smell.

The oil itself was thus named petrichor – the blood of the stone.

The smell itself comes about when increased humidity – a pre-cursor to rain – fills the pores of stones (rocks, soil, etc) with tiny amounts of water.

Conclusion

Fascinating, eh?

A great thing for the city!)) Sono - device providing silence in the apartment.
Active noise control system developed Rudolf Stefanich, an industrial designer from Austria, calling it Sono. In the framework of its work on the technology used in headphones. This small device is attached to the window with the help of special suction cups and absorbs most of penetrating into the room from the street outside noise. The package includes the device microphone, speaker and built-in processor. Speaker, being pressed against the glass, using it as a resonator to play sounds in the opposite, the processor is analyzing and filtering the received microphone sounds. Thus, the device can selectively suppress noise, according to the settings entered by the user.
Moreover, Sono can independently play various pleasant to the human ear sounds of nature: the sound of the surf, and so on.
Sono project has reached the final of the competition James Dyson Award in 2013. So far, the device exists only as a prototype - the author of the idea of looking for investors and partners to transform the concept into a commercial product.

Hubble's Birthday present to all of us

Tomorrow is the 25th anniversary of the +Hubble Space Telescope, and staying with tradition, we've released an very special image to commemorate the anniversary. This year's image is Westerlund 2.

Instead of posting the still image (which is gorgeous and I'll link to it below), I decided to take the video that was made by the +NASA & +European Space Agency, ESA teams, including +Frank Summers & +Zolt Levay

Westerlund 2 is a magnificent star cluster of about 3,000 stars, which we like to attribute it being fireworks celebration the #Hubble25  milestone. It resides a mere 20,000 light-years away from us in the constellation Carina and is fairly young: about 2 million years old.

To find out more about the image, the video and the science behind it, head on over to the Hubble 25th Website: http://hubble25th.org/images/27
