Ability to calculate fast don't prove your math prowess. Stressing on calculation speed is killing our children's ability to do math with great flexibility.
Professor Jo Boaler says students most effectively learn "math facts" working on problems they enjoy, rather than through exercises and drills they fear. Timed testing and blind memorization damage children's experience of math, she says.

This is pretty cool: the authors attempted to prove the correctness of a common sorting implementation and discovered it was in fact flawed.  Seems an input has to be rather carefully crafted to trigger a failure, though.

Too bad I don't have a Linux machine to try it out now. I wonder how fast will it be?

One of the best perks of being an engineer at Google is now open source. Our build system is just awesome.

"Our brains are the most bug ridden pieces of junk since Internet Explorer. To replicate one common bug, try telling your brain to "go to the gym." Most brains will respond by updating their Facebook status and watching cat videos. This is not the desired behavior."
Wouldn't it be great if you could debug your brain as though it were bad code? We might not be able to reprogram ourselves, but we can use the principles of debugging to help ourselves build better habits. Here's how to debug your brain.
