I recently went to Yamashiro for my anniversary with my boyfriend, which was on Halloween. The food was AMAZING however our server was soooooooooo bad that it was hard to enjoy. At one point she took over 45 minutes to get our drink order and gave our anniversary desert to the table next to us. She also never wished us a happy anniversary even though my boyfriend made it very clear all 3 times he spoke with the restaurant on the phone that it was a 6 year long special event. We also were NOT cheap, we ordered the most expensive items off the menu and were ready to tip BIG, sadly our waitress didn't realize that and missed out. Luckily, the manager, Johnny, made it up to us with EXCELLENT service. We would like to go back soon, as the food was very good. My advice would be from the very start say something if your server isn't performing properly because they work very hard here and will definitely make sure you leave with a smile on your face if you give them the opportunity to do so. Also, know when your going. Our server was young and seemed pissed she was working on Halloween, understandable. I mean on any other occasion I would have sympathized with her but it was my 6 year anniversary so I lost patience with her after trying to make her feel good on our day. She ruined our meal but Yamashiro did not. I chalk up my -2 starts to her poor service. It would have been -5 stars if it werent for Johnny. It would have been +5 stars had I had better service because the view, the decor and the food were AMAZING - seriously try it out.

Great views, great service, great food, but be aware the sushi menu is a bit more limited than most other places. Although, they are willing to go off menu if they have what they need to make it.

I don't know about other times, but this restaurant is an epic failure during New Year time. First the service. It was terrible. After we got sitted, we waited for half an hour and no one came to take our order. Finally, I had to pick a random waiter to call our server. Then we had to wait another 25 minutes at the end of the meal for the desert. And when it came, there was no spoon. They expected us to eat with our bare hand. Second, the food was barely OK-ish.. For an expensive restaurant like this, it should have been superb. And this is supposed to be a Japanese restaurant.. but the food was totally Americanese. The salad in this 4-course menu was so bad that I was happier with the one they sell at Costco for 3$. The complimentary champagne was served in a PLASTIC cup! WTF? The sushi assortment was served with wasabi on the side, but no soy sauce. We are expected to just eat sushi and sashimi with no sauce.. The ONLY decent dish was the waguy steak. I have been to Japan several times and love to try different dishes, but this is NOT Japanese flavor. Utterly disappointed with this place. The view probably cost most of the price.. so do not expect good service or food here. Go for Korean BBQ instead, or Little Tokyo, or Orange County for some Vietnamese food, or Monterey Park for Chinese. Stay away from here as far as you can!
