7 APPS that will make your life easier

A recent study from Great Britain shows that we spend on average 23 days a year using our mobile phone, often not for useful stuff.

However there are apps out there that can simplify your life and value your time, which of course is one of your precious resources.

Huffington Post proposes a list with the most useful applications for the mobile phone:

Clear – When it comes to personal assistant apps that help you organize your life, Clear is by far the most popular app in the iPhone fans group. This app features just the basic and it is very touchscreen friendly.

Pocket – this app is a simple solution for displaying just the text and useful content from a web page. Because as you already know today’s web pages are full of banners and commercials, Pocket auto-extracts just the useful content from a website and lets you focus on what is relevant and important for you.

Evernote – the “notepad” for Android. With this app you can keep notes, audio self-recordings, camera images or task lists. These are stored online and accessible on windows, Mac and smartphones. It is meant to simply help you to keep your thought, tasks and not forget stuff.

MindNode – The perfect app for saving and organizing ideas in a visual mode that allows a bird’s eye view over a project. The user interface is well structured and allows you to focus on generating and connecting ideas on an infinite piece of virtual paper.

Mailbox – The name says it all… This app proposes a new way of organizing the emails and features the possibility to synchronize more accounts in the same time.

CloudOn – Allows the Ipad users the possibility to rename and delete the MS Office dicuments using Dropbox, and has almost the same features as Microsoft Office. CloudOn doesn’t allow you however to insert graphic files in the documents.

Checkmark – It is an improved version of the Reminders app. You can use it to add reminders based on location, and when you get in that location, you will be noticed right away with what you have to do there. If you will use this app, you should not forget anymore the things that you have to do.

Do you have a small retail business? If yes, this article is for you

If you own, a small restaurant, bakery, candy shop or coffee bar, and you don’t have an online order service, you should definitely think about doing something in this direction.

Nowadays everybody is using smartphones, and spending more time in the virtual world than in the real world. We don’t know if this is bad or good, but this definitely means that they have much less time to spend in the real world, therefore trying to reach your potential clients online is a must.

How can you do this pretty simple and relatively cheap? Simple! Get an online store and be active on Facebook.

If you have a POS, it can be set to receive online orders and enter them directly in the system automatically, operate stocks and generate the receipt together with the delivery address and client comments.

We recently developed an integrated solution in the following configuration:

Online shop, that automatically synchronizes with the products entered in the POS system (we have solutions for different systems, including the most popular and reliable one – Vectron)

The online orders arrive directly in the POS and are processed by the cashier.

If this becomes a busy business with many online orders and delivery service, we also an integrated dispatch software together with mobile applications for the couriers and all the necessary statistics.

Is the public transport from your city high tech?

The intelligent buses and stations start to be a common thing these days. The classical buses and mobile devices are merging more and more in the busy cities. Things like USB ports and wireless internet access are a standard in the last few years, but nowadays, the stations also start to borrow some technology. They tend to have electronic displays, that show the station name, date and hour, but also the estimated arrival time for the next bus, tram or trolley. For example we can see that the bus with the number 30 will arrive in the station in three minutes, and the one from the line eight in six minutes. The commuters can also see this kind of information on the private displays of their mobile phones, even if they are in the bus station or in their office. This way they can optimize the route in order to make it in time to the station, without having to waste too much time in the station waiting for their transport.

How is this magic possible? Pretty simple and relatively cheap, using modern technology.

On the bus, trolley or tram is installed a GPS receiver, a mobile internet device and sometimes a beacon.
The GPS receiver gets the vehicle coordinates and current speed, then sends them through the mobile internet connection to a server, where the approximate arrival time is calculated and sent to the stations displays and via an API to the mobile app. Many systems are using also Bluetooth beacons for increased precision. This means that the system also knows very accurately when the vehicle is in the station, and when it leaves it, updating the vehicle statuses in the app.

Limitless app features

From the mobile app, public transport tickets can be bought using a credit card, digital wallet, credit, or even bitcoins… The municipality can include the whole city transport map, with all the vehicle positions updated in real time. It can also feature the city attractions and routes individually calculated from the current position, travel estimated duration and total cost.

How much does an app cost?

Well this is a pretty vague question… It’s like asking how much does a car cost. There are some criteria in order to determine, or at least ballpark the price of a car:

Low budget car – I will do the job, but there will be a very short list of options, most of them not included in the standard price. When you will finally get the car, it will not be something to make you proud and eager to show your new car to your friends, customers and partners. This kind of car will be priced in a range from 8000 eur to 15.000 eur

Average car – It’s usually a decent car, with more available options than a low budget/small car, more reliable, with better looks, but the price is tricky, it will rapidly grow as you add more and more options that seem indispensable. The final price of the car will range from 15.000 to 40.000 eur, depending mostly of the options list, but you will get something that you will be proud of for at least 1-2 years.

Luxury car – when you think about a luxury car, it usually comes with the latest technology, and all the needed features, in the form of an elegant and refined product. Everybody is aspiring to this kind of car, but in order to get it you have to pay a certain price, which is usually above 40.000 eur.

The question remains, what’s the price of an app? Well, pretty similar to a car price, and if you replace above the word “car” with the word “app”, you will get the answer 😉
