How to set up two-factor authentication for SSH login on Linux

http://xmodulo.com/2014/07/two-factor-authentication-ssh-login-linux.html

#ssh   #authentication   #google   #linux
With many high-profile password leaks nowadays, there is a lot of buzz in the industry on "multi-factor" authentication. In a multi-factor authentication system, users are required to go through two distinct authentication procedures: providing something they know (e.g., username/password), and leveraging something they have "physical" access to (e.g., one-time passcode generated by their mobile phone). …Continue reading...

+Tsvetomir Totev of course you can. But that only makes it more complicated. Yes I do have web servers running at different TCP-ports.
And experimentations can be done with anything. This is standard ports or useful common ports. So Tanenbaum is right.

Actually you don't have to make it global executable by putting it in /usr/local/bin. You can create a local ~/bin directory in your home and put it there with the +x flag on it. Then just restart the terminal and you're ready to run it by your user. Putting something that don't required root privileges to execute in a system wide directory is a bad habit. :)

How to simulate key press and mouse movement in Linux

Have you ever dreamed of your computer doing stuff automatically for you? Probably not if you just watched Terminator. But except for that, scripting and task automation are every power user's dreams. If a lot of solutions exist today to fit such goal, it is sometimes hard to pick the simple, smart, and efficient one …Continue reading...

I went looking for a high res poster. This version is copyrighted 2002 (from an earlier version copyrighted in 1998 by Net 3 Group (http://www.subnetonline.com/media/download_gallery/protocolencapsulation.pdf). Looks like WildPackets simply replaced the original Net 3 Group labeling with theirs.  Not sure where IPv6 was at that point but probably was still being finalized in 1998 when this graphic originally was published.

What are the alternatives to Skype on Linux

http://xmodulo.com/2014/07/alternatives-skype-linux.html

#voip   #sip   #opensource   #messaging
It is pretty much acknowledged by now that Skype is evil. Maybe not as evil as a DRM on a brand new game, but very close. To summarize the events, Skype has been bought by Microsoft, has been spied on by the NSA, is now quitting its peer-to-peer protocol for a centralized system, and on …Continue reading...

I don't like Skype. I'd rather use Google Hangouts. And there are surely a dozen alternatives but by the notion of network effect, you can no choice but use the means most people use. Skype is therefore the most perferred one.

In this tutorial, I will show you how to find and kill any misbehaving MySQL queries. To view the currently-running queries, log in to the MySQL console and run the 'show …Continue reading...
