Spine-Chilling Self challege

Experience is the food of spiritual growth. An extraordinary and unforgettable experience even tastes like a colorful, aromatic, and absolutely delicious gourmet, it affords a lingering aftertaste. In the journey of life, no matter what emotions we have, there will be an indelible experience for every person. Of course I’m no exception. Last year, I went to a well-known natural rock climbing hotspot in Taiwan – Long Done, now I still remember the scene vividly as if it was yesterday.

On the way there, I was extremely confident that I could swiftly and successfully reach the top. Nevertheless, when we got there all I saw was a nearly vertical cliff made by Mother Nature, I felt a chill down my spine. I couldn’t help but squeal with spontaneous awe, praise and admiration! Being a first-time rock climber was over the moon. Moreover, I was so eager to succeed that I scrambled up the rock like a monkey up a tree. When I was close to the top, I started to run out of steam. Hardly had I distracted on that moment when my hand accidentally slipped! I was suspended in mid-air, immediately I was kept on tenterhooks instead of my arrogance. Due to my mind going blank, I was unable to take control of my body. Entirely was I horrified! Therefore, I was very frustrated and wanted to give up. Then I recalled that my mother once said : ""If we persist in the end, anything is possible.” Meanwhile, my companions at the bottom were enthusiastically shouting:"" Come on! you can do it, believe in yourself! ""The cheers of my mom and teammates gave me the strength to go on fearlessly.

After conquering the summit, I breathed a sigh of relief and a satisfied smile crept over my face. Standing on the highest point overlooking all my surroundings, I strongly felt as though I was on the top of the world. I was deeply affected by what Su Shi said:「寄蜉蝣於天地,渺滄海之一粟」 It means humanity is as tiny as ephemera on earth, like a millet so slight in the ocean in English, comprehending that we are only the comers and goers of the universe and that we are only a speck of earth. This convinced me that life is short, for this reason we must cherish our family, friends, and everything that we have.

To complete the rock climbing challenge, it was not only because of my perseverance, but also relied on my comrades’ support and encouragement. Most of all, I realized the importance of teamwork. A thing of beauty is a joy for ever. This is the most special and significantly memorable experience of my life until now, but still more challenges await me in the future. This is one of the best “gourmet food” I’ve had so far. What’s more, it is one of the best adventures in my life story.
