The Vietnamese concept of chi—the power that lies within—is the foundation of an innovative new campaign launched to tackle rhino horn use in Vietnam. It promotes the notion that success and good luck flow from an individual’s internal strength of character and refutes the view that these traits come from a piece of horn.

#ElephantsNeedUS! One elephant, on average, is poached for ivory somewhere in Africa every 15 minutes. And an almost unenforceable patchwork of rules in the US is making it easy for wildlife criminals to launder illegal elephant ivory. The Obama Administration’s proposed new rules to ensure the US protects elephants is facing opposition from some groups. Tell the administration to stand strong: http://wwf.to/S5UkVS

I don't understand why we as a country are not tougher on illegal goods coming here.  It makes me sad that even one elephant has to suffer at the hands of these individuals!!  I would love to hunt the hunters down and do to them what they inflict on these poor defenseless animals!!!

Dear Human:

Imagine that, little by little, your home was taken away from you. The forests that you once roamed freely disappeared, replaced by roads and concrete buildings.

What if politicians in suits, someplace far away, decided your fate… decided that you, your family, your friends, and neighbors had become a nuisance-a menace- to those who had invaded your home?

And so now, you must die.

Imagine these politicians rallying for your slaughter… ignoring what science has told them, encouraging citizens to hunt you down and kill you.

Imagine your family under attack. Defenseless, with nowhere left to hide, you most dodge bullets from the ground and sky, just to find food for yourself and your young children.

Imagine that, in one of these public hunts, you watched your offspring die.

Then you will know the terror that animals face up every day… and why we so desperately need your help.

After all, you and your fellow humans are the only ones who can save us. Our fate is in your hands.

So I hope you will answer this cry for help. You are our only hope. And time is running out...

In just four decades, the populations of animals on Earth have fallen by an average of 52 percent. That’s half of the mammals. Half of the birds. Half of the fish, amphibians, and reptiles, vanished. The actions we take moving forward mean EVERYTHING. Read more about the findings in the Living Planet Report and learn more about what we’re doing: http://wwf.to/YU1xuF

All consequences (intended or not) of government intervention of nature. Natural habitats and our environment isn't a postcard picture from today or years ago that can be maintained through destructive human meddling and as long as we continue to allow government to "manage" ecosystems, we're going to keep getting the same disastrous results. Complex systems like the environment are all interwoven with any action (well intended or not) meant to "fix" something we wanted to see changed or preserved will have unintended, usually disastrous consequences on other unforeseen areas connected to our need to play "God" with nature. Don't think that your solution to a narrow minded cause is going to have only beneficial effects or be beneficial at all. You need look no further than government intervention and the continual disasters created by government in Yellowstone national park over the past 50 years and still today to realize people don't know shit about managing an ecosystem.
