Every name has a story. This is Mariko in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The 80-year-old arrived at Mugunga refugee camp after fleeing violence in his village, and his family now receives #WFP assistance. There are 805 million hungry people in the world today. Make sure the world knows. http://buff.ly/1AVtiTL#805millionnames

As a cook at a #WFP-supported school in #Kyrgyzstan, Batma’s busiest time of day is lunch, when primary school students rush into the school canteen. Last year, she was among 400 school cooks who WFP trained in preparing more nutritious #schoolmeals. http://buff.ly/1AbABBE

“I want to use my fame to bring attention to the 805 million people who suffer from #hunger in the world today. All these people have names, which no one cheers for. I want you to cheer for them, just like you cheer for me, because they are the true champions.” – European football star #ZlatanIbrahimović. “The time I spend collecting wood has been cut in half, the smoke is reduced, I don’t burn myself anymore and my eyes are much more comfortable,” says Dasash Girmaye in #Ethiopia. #WFP is expanding the safe-stove initiative there by distributing 24,000 safe, fuel-efficient stoves that improve both the environment and the lives of families: http://buff.ly/1zV8c4a

“I am happy that I will be going to a big school next year,” says Kamohelo, who will be starting primary school next year. For the past two years, she has received two meals a day through WFP’s #schoolmeals programme in #Lesotho. Kamohelo is one reason WFP is pleased to commemorate International School Meals Day, March 5. http://buff.ly/18Ggm9S #ISMD2015

“Working with WFP to prepare a business plan for our cooperative and for our own farm has been very good,” says Leonardo Yorlis Lopez Moreira, a #farmer in a cooperative in #Cuba. “We had no idea about production costs, or what it took for our production to reach the table of those people who really need it. Now we know how to calculate costs, and we can apply it not only to the beans but to everything we do.” Read how #WFP is supporting Cuban farmers to improve food security: http://buff.ly/1LJKLjV

In Morocco, food is passed down at the end of every meal within the home and then if need be outside the home.  No food gets wasted.

Fighting Hunger Worldwide
Introduction
Hunger is the single greatest problem of our time, affecting nearly a billion people around the world. It robs children of their potential and it harms their minds and bodies. Hungry children can’t learn, hungry patients can’t heal and hungry parents can’t free themselves from poverty.

We are the World Food Programme, the biggest humanitarian aid agency in the world. When we’re not saving lives in emergencies, we’re helping families get back on their feet. When we’re not serving meals in school, we’re shielding mothers and kids from malnutrition.

This is our page on Google+. Follow us and join the fight against hunger.
