When we asked how they adapted to the tidal wave of new technology, one student said, “It’s only technology if it happened after you were born.”

POP Foundation (Dec-2013)
I got involved with this organisation, a few months ago, that gives back to the community mainly by assisting orphanages and hospices. Appropriately named Playing Our Part Foundation (or POP for short), the members identify an orphanage/hospices in need, reaches out and finally makes a day out of delivering groceries/goods and pretty much spends the rest of it playing with the kids/interacting with the people at the said orphanage/hospice. More about them here: www.popfoundation.org.za/about-us/.

I initially wrote the POP website sometime back in June, just after my first visit with them, as a pro bono gig. Though at the time, missing a few nitty gritties things, it was considered complete.

This month while uploading new content, I updated Wordpress, which in turn broke the theme (pinpress). Luckily the theme had it's own update so I ran that too but it overrode all my modifications on it, **dies.
I've spent much of this week restoring the theme back to how it was before, as well as some slight improvements. The nitty gritties came back as an issue, one such was a POP Reach map. Now, I lost count of the mapping plugins I tried, but as I was about to give up and upload a picture of a map with hot spots and tool tips, I tried one last plugin (maps maker) and it actually worked... Relief.

Anyway, check it out at www.popfoundation.org.za and let me know your thoughts. Also, if you are interested in being a member (or a Y-100 Contributor), let us know in the site's contact form www.popfoundation.org.za/contacts/.

#whatilearnttoday (Feb-2013)
First project of 2013. Small scale project to pull a twitter feed and display it as a ticker on an independent website. Although Twitter has code building widgets, I used code from Sea Of Clouds (check out http://tweet.seaofclouds.com/) to get flexibility of filters and custom css. Minimal and simple, I love how it came out. Check it out at http://www.whatilearnttoday.net/
