It's time once again to show that #Leatherneck Pride is alive and well ... and in full force at #WIU! Students, alumni, friends, faculty and staff are asked to vote in the STANLEY Security "Together for Safer Schools" grant contest. You can vote for WIU at stanleysaferschools.com, or via SMS text message (text wiuedu to 334455), and on Twitter using the BOTH hashtags #STANLEYSecurity and #wiuedu when you tweet! (One vote PER METHOD per day will be tallied.)

The top two schools that receive the most votes in each category will receive $150K grants of security products and services from STANLEY Security. Western is in category two (8,000-19,999 students). As #WIU commemorates Military Appreciation Week, it's appropriate that for the fifth consecutive year, Western Illinois University has been selected as a 2015 "Best for Vets College" by Military Times EDGE magazine. Western, ranked 18th (up 19 spots from the 2014 ranking), is the only Illinois four-year university in the top 20.

Introduction

Established in 1899, Western Illinois Normal and Training School opened its doors Sept. 23, 1902 to 229 students. Throughout the years, Western Illinois grew and its name changed from Western Illinois State College to Western Illinois University on July 5, 1957.

Today, Western Illinois University offers a variety of bachelor's and master's degree programs, pre-professional programs, a doctorate degree in education, and certificate programs to more than 12,200 students.
