Hello alternative to scrollsawing! I've been admiring +Michael Agate
's scroll-sawn portraits for a long while now, but for the portrait I wanted to do (my wife with one of our cats), there were two problems, (a) I suck at scroll sawing something awful, and (b), looking at white or black areas, I could never get a situation where there wasn't an unsupported piece (in the black and white version, her eyes came out opposite the cat's because of the reflection in his). So I managed a kludge. I just glued a piece of walnut veneer on top of an aspen board, spray-glued a printed-out picture on top of that, then used a dremel tool to cut down through the veneer on all the white parts. The paper mostly peeled off, and it wasn't hard to sand out the rest. I'm sure I'm not the first person to do this, but I'm pretty happy with the results. It's not perfect, but I think the technique has potential.
