Local dealerships employ workers from all backgrounds in sales, service and management occupations-often with opportunities for advancement.

Minority groups and women continue to account for a growing portion of the employee base at franchised new-car dealerships across the country.

Both minorities and women are also taking on key roles within the dealership, including as general managers and as managers of the dealership finance and insurance office-positions that are critical to a dealership's ability to provide the best possible customer service.

Creating Opportunities for Female and Minority Entrepreneurs and Business Owners

The number of minority-owned dealerships in the U.S. has been on the rise since the economy began its recovery from the Great Recession in 2009.

In 2011, there were only 873 minority-owned franchised new-car dealerships in the U.S. At the end of 2015, there were 1,228.

Some 264 of these dealerships were owned by African Americans. Another 552 were owned by Hispanics, and 215 were owned by Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

Automakers continue to actively foster the development of minority- and female-owned dealerships through programs designed to help them succeed in the marketplace.

With a retail workforce topping 1 million and the industry poised for growth, dealerships need to focus on hiring and retaining talented employees. The NADA Dealership Workforce Study (DWS) provides one-of-a-kind analysis of dealership pay plans and benefit packages, retention and turnover, employee benefits, work schedules and demographics. It is based on actual payroll data and questionnaire responses submitted by NADA and ATD members. The 2017 Study closes promptly on April 28, 2017.

On November 10, 2016 the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced their final changes to the Used Car Rule. Those changes affected the Federal the Federal Buyer’s Guide and dealer disclosure requirements for used vehicle transactions. It has come to the attention of WATDA that some Wisconsin dealers are being told by some vendors that they need to purchase the new forms. However, the CHANGES TO THE FEDERAL BUYER’S GUIDE DO NOT AFFECT THE WISCONSIN BUYER'S GUIDE.

The state of Wisconsin has a federal waiver regarding the use of the federal Buyer’s Guide. The FTC had determined that the Wisconsin Buyer’s Guide provides as much, if not more (defiantly more) consumer protections than the federal standards. That being said, if you are interested in the changes to the federal Used Car Rule, see the link below.

If you have any questions on these changes, please call WATDA at (608) 251-5577.
