GD32F103 is a Sub-$3 STM32-Compatible Cortex-M3 MCU Running at 108MHz

This is interesting. The GD32 clone runs 50% faster than the STM32 and it’s slightly cheaper too. Or as our own PT said, this is “what happens when even the lowest cost ARM chips get drop in replacements from Chinese designers….”

The GD32F103xx device incorporates the ARM Cortex-M3 32-bit processor core operating at 108 MHz frequency with Flash accesses zero wait states to obtain maximum efficiency. It provides up to 3 MB on-chip Flash memory and up to 96 KB SRAM memory.

The invasion of smaller high performance board has started. A rather compact quad core ARM Cortex A7 with 512MB of RAM for less than €15. A good competitor for the raspberry Pi.
