Four Proven Ways To Grow Your Business With Social Media
I’ve been enjoying watching Forbes slowly become more focused on the web components of a successful business, particularly as it pertains to social media. Unfortunately, they tend to be hit and miss - people share their ideas about social media usage, but many of them still hail from a time where you could simply broadcast your marketing message and get results.
That is not the reality anymore. Any viable social media strategy has to be focused on creating avenues of connection, rather than simply becoming an advertising medium.
And while I still see many articles that miss the boat in this regard, I was happy to stumble upon this article on leadership which, I think, gets it right.
In it, Bruce Kasanoff identifies four principles for using social in ways that actually benefit your business. Namely:
➤ Kindness First:
Take the time to genuinely help others
➤ Be Provocative:
This doesn’t mean “stir up debate,” but it does mean to take a solid stance on your opinions, rather than waffling back and forth. Know what you want to say, and stick with it.
➤ Be Memorable:
Simplify your ideas. When you publish something on social, have one CLEAR idea you want to communicate. This helps you stick in the minds of your followers.
➤ Interact Online:
This goes back to my opening discussion. Don’t be a broadcaster. Take the time to interact with people. Build relationships. Get off your own profile and start making connections.
