OVER THE YEARS I've wondered who I wrote this song to.... Now I know... It is meant for everybody I ever met and cared about --- people I have hurt, people I have loved, people I've never met. As the years pass, this song gets stronger and stronger and more present everywhere I look. It started out as a lullaby to a woman I loved by the River Seine in Paris. Some wonderful nights.... But the song is more than this. When I ask who the song was written to now, I think I wrote it to myself... And, most of all, it turns out I wrote it to you.

ELEVATOR GIRL - This was an attempt at a pop song... But the Jamaican rhythms enter in and the song begins to drift... into my first lead guitar solo. Then ends with a lovely piano fill by Bobby Dean Blackburn. I think I'm playing bongos on this one, also.

At night I walked out into the fields of Caledon. I remember kneeling naked in the grasses and praying. (There's more to this story which I can't tell here).
At any rate, I'd look into the sky. And the sky in the north, the sky would light up. And then I heard an all pervasive sound - it was a choir of angels singing all around.
I told this to my friend and waitress at the Paradise the next day.
She said: "I thought you only heard the angels singing as you were dying, or after you had died."
Not so, apparently... But I'm not going to pretend I know how any of this stuff works....Anyway, this song is called: "I HAVE HEARD THE ANGELS SINGING." And it's a dandy.

STANDING UP - In the early days, I thought about all the defects there are in this song. Now I think of the 3 good men who sang in the chorus, and I say: "Don't worry, Johnny. We gave it all we had. And you can't ask for more than that. When I play this song, I start to move, dancing and swaying in my chair. Hell, yeah! This is what we want. This is what we have.
