Introduction
Husband, Dad and Maths Teacher in that order. I am deeply passionate about using ICT to improve learning and am responsible for the leadership of this within my department.

I run a blog devoted to sharing teaching ideas and resources with maths teachers the world over called Great Maths Teaching Ideas.

My ebook 100 Things Awesome Teachers Do shares practical advice with teachers about how to improve the learning inside their classroom everyday. The book is available in the Apple iBookstore, the Amazon Kindle Store and many other online ebook retailers. The book was n.o. 1 in the Apple iBookstore Education Book charts in March 2012.

MathsMaster.Org is a website I founded in March 2011 to help pupils the world over become better mathematicians by giving them access to engaging free maths videos.

DANGEROUS PRODUCTS- Do not use Currys PC World.

They sold me an electric hob which literally exploded sending glass shards flying across my kitchen at my family. Currys PC World then refused to refund or exchange and continue to ignore my complaint.

Keep your family safe.

An analysis I have performed to answer the question "which skills must students master in KS3 in order to fully access the GCSE curriculum in KS4".

#math   #mathchat   #mathematics   #edchat  #ukedchat
What you're looking at is the GCSE Mathematics curriculum. Each node represents a topic, e.g. transformations, ordering decimal numbers, frequency polygons etc. There are 164 nodes in the diagram representing all topics on both the foundation and higher tier curriculum.

Science Fun on Film
Make a Pythagorean Cup! It can be used as a drinking cup if it's not filled to the top, but if someone tries to pour their glass to the top, it drains out of the bottom. Named after Greek philosopher Pythagoras of Samos (Pythagorean Theorem). More details on Instructables here: http://goo.gl/7hHoUY

I'd like to create some node-link diagrams like these. Big ones. Anyone know of any software I could use to automate it?

Mastery Learning in secondary maths- re-imagining everything from first principles
Every now and again you have to go back to first principles and look at problems, systems, technologies from a blank canvas perspective. Life is full of trade-offs where you need to make a decision about where you lie on that particular spectrum. You can choose to pay more or less for posting a ...

Used to be really good. Service nowhere near what it used to be.

A disappointing experience because of staff that couldn't be bothered. My wife and I went for a meal at this pub. There were many things on the menu that they had run out of that evening. The waitress seemed attentive at first but then disappeared. A chef appeared ringing a bell for some service staff that never appeared after 3 tries. He then begrudgingly brought out the food himself, which, to be fair, was a good meal. We sat with dirty plates for over 15 mins whilst the waitress had reappeared and sat on the next table eating her own meal! After this time we decided it would be best to skip dessert as we were unsure we'd ever be offered one! The chap at the till never asked how our meal was or whether we'd had a good evening as he took our money. A disappointing apathy from the staff spoilt what could have been a lovely meal out...

My review relates to the bike-selling side of Halfords in Hedge End. I strongly advise you to avoid purchasing bikes from this shop because of the consistently poor customer service experiences I have had with them. I bought a kids 'Hello Kitty' bike from here for my daughter and they offered to attach the bell and streamers. When we picked up the bike the bell was loose and had been put on the wrong way round! The brakes were also not correctly set up. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I later purchased a bike for my wife which upon collection they presented to me with flat tyres, brakes that were so loose they didn't apply before the levers touched the handle bar and a loose front light. The gears were also not set up correctly. On many occasions when I have visited the shop three guys stand at the desk talking about their social life and don't come to see if you need help without you asking for it. They then make you wait until they have finished their conversation! Finally when a spoke on the rear wheel of my racing bike broke (which I had bought from a different Halfords many years before) they told me they couldn't fix it because they didn't stock spokes and couldn't source them. They offered to sell me a whole new wheel just to take one spoke off it! The cheek! £6.50 in CycleWorld, Thornhill sorted the problem rather than the £82.50 solution Halfords offered! I tolerated this poor customer service for too long and strongly advise you to avoid them at all costs. Chase Cycles a few miles up the road in Waltham Chase is by far the best cycle shop around Southampton and I recommend it as the best alternative

I visited Chase Cycles looking for advice on buying my 2nd road bike. In short, the customer service they offered me was exceptional. They took a lot of time to discuss my needs and then gave excellent advice in a non-patronising, honest way. They put a lot of effort into finding the right bike for me and even offered me a ride on a demo model free of charge. In my opinion Chase Cycles is the best cycle shop around the Southampton area. Halfords in Hedge End are dire. I have had numerous terrible experiences with them and strong advise you avoid them at all costs. CycleWorld near Thornhill is good, but the customer service in Chase Cycles is in a different league and wins the day with me. Highly recommended :-)
