Interesting Events  -

Hi guys, sorry to intrude.

I see the random "raffle" for google I/O 2014 is now open for San Francisco.

Do you know if there will be, as per fine tradition, a local Google I/O event in Brussels this year? I'm trying to book flights for a work trip but don't want to have it make me miss the event! Really enjoyed the last two years and hope it's going to be again :) best, William

+Mike Elgan +Leo Laporte. Hi guys, just a quick question really:

I've heard a lot of discussion on the "third world" in discussions on twit.tv in various contexts but most recently on phones etc particularly over Nokia launches recently.

Is it still considered acceptable to use this term "third world" in the US?

As a British person - perhaps of a younger generation (I'm 29) we were always told at school it is more respectable and technically appropriate to refer to "LEDC". For me it jumps out now when I here more dated terminology - It just seems pretty bad.

I know this may seem a silly comment but seriously : it's intriguing from a cultural perspective about want is considered ok etc in the US.

Thanks for letting me know your thoughts !

a pleasure - Twit has a global reach so sometimes it's best to use terms which are perhaps as appropriate as possible in that context. Not easy, but happy to try and contribute to this.

Is it just me or is #hangouts    down?

When i open the window i get ...

" 500. That’s an error.
There was an error. Please try again later. That’s all we know."

The bit in gmail also keeps saying "cannot connect to the server", and then it does connect and then it cuts out. Everything else - gmail itself, plus etc, is working fine.

Tried in different browsers..

Sick to death of my iPhone (5) crashing since iOS 7.

It's plugged in, charging merely, listening to a podcast and boom. It's literally every day - far more than I ever saw blue screens of death in Windows, even under Wjndows ME

Hoping 7.1 will fix this mess.

iOS 7, OS X Mavericks, Keynote 6... Anything coming out of Cupertino since Steve Jobs passed, seems to come out with way less quality control. Instead of "It's not perfect... get back to work", it's "Good enough, let's go home".

I love how it looks etc, and how putting together a few parts is fun, but how is this "making" a computer? Confused! It's no different to opening up a traditional PC out of it's box!

+zyksii It's not a question of me taking things too "goddam literally", rather I was trying to ascertain what the objective of this product is.. As I said, I was confused!

I often use this but on too many an occasion I have got there to find (presumably due to where it's located - at the top of a hill) devoid of bikes to rent.. The Villo folk, particularly saturday afternoons/sundays clearly dont scoop them up on their clever trailers at the bottom of the hill to put them back enough to replenish the demand

I have a subscription to the UGC cinemas - and this place was done up relatively recently (in the past 2 years I think), so thankfully there now seems to be the air conditioning that another mentioned seemed absent. If you can avoid Friday and Saturday evenings like the plague. Aside from being shoved in like sardines, you tend to find they don't really clean up between films and if you've got any of my bad luck you'll find bits of popcorn stuck to your back when you walk back home.

Honestly, I live down the road and hate it. It's a classic tourist hotspot, where you queue for hours because of some glossy airline magazine only to find the surrounding area is filthy (it's right next to the recycling bins, invariably overflowing), stench of old beer bottles etc and a couple of knackered benches. As to the actually taste of the chips - it depends.. Not to my liking, but the quality of what you get depends on when you go. I've been three times - each with friends who have been visiting. Sometimes when the food is fresh it's ok. Other times it's close to inedible.

Apparently closed at the moment for renovations, which is good as it was a mess last time I went in it. Personally I found the Carrefour right opposite to be much better. But I'm hopeful the renovations will make it better

The food was good, but the prices too expensive (15+ euros for a fancy chicken burger..)
