My Podcast Just Launched Today

My podcast launches today with a common question that I find online. There are always photographers asking, "When can I call myself a professional photographer?"

There are some funny answers to this question when it comes up, but I have my own opinion. Check it out today and more to come at http://photoflunky.com.

What is a professional photographer? Do you know when it's OK to call yourself a professional photographer? Here are three criteria you need to meet.

Pumpkin Time At Animal Kingdom

I realized a few things when I saw this video.

1: Gorillas are real jerks when they have a pumpkin.
2: I recognize every gorilla in this video and have photographed all of them.
2: Tigers would rather eat you than a pumpkin.

It is Not New

Perhaps our elected officials need to walk around Washington D.C.'s monuments to learn from history. They can start with FDR.

We had some gurgling in our toilet and it was slow to drain, then we made the mistake of plunging it. Next thing you know, sewage in the shower. Not good. We checked reviews for plumbers (not here, obviously) and found Brownie's had a good reputation on Google. Our request was to have them come out and clear up the system to make it usable. Ultimately, we paid for service and they never corrected the problem. Instead of taking the time to evaluate the system, they used our problems as an opportunity to sell us services we didn't need. The first guy came out and said we needed to drain our septic tank. We have a wooden gate that gets a bit sticky, so he pulled off a board from the gate and left it tossed on the ground. When he attempted to pump the septic tank, he asked us to flush the toilet. He told us the pipe he used to drain the tank should be vibrating, but nothing was going through it. Turns out we didn't need our septic tank drained. He made the call to his manager and then said another man would need to come out who would need to work inside the house, as the problem was not in the septic tank. The next man came out, but said he didn't need to enter the house. He spent some time outside working and told us everything was alright. According to his work order, he said he snaked a drain. We have no way of telling if we needed this service or if it did any good. Apparently, it didn't help. The gurgling problems in the toilet continued, so I called my first complaint to Brownie's and they told us a specialist would come out. Some specialist. This guy was dressed for the office, not plumbing in the field. He spent five minutes, poked the ground and told us we needed a new septic tank & drain field at a cost of approximately $4500. When we asked him how he came to this conclusion, he wouldn't answer. Then he spent 15 minutes writing up a quote. Magically, the price dropped a bit when we told him we'd be getting a second opinion. After spending nearly $500 without a real benefit, we brought in an independent plumber. Now this guy was great. He was an older guy with years of experience who spent over an hour listening to us, evaluating our system and assessing the ground. Bottom line, he said our septic tank was fine, it never needed to be pumped, and there was no immediate need for a drain field. Our problems happened after a torrential rain storm and that affected the drain field. We may need to replace it at some point down the road, but it's fine right now. I made my second call to Brownie's to complain. A manager spoke with me and said that he would send out someone at no charge to evaluate our system. That never happened and he never called back to follow up. After nearly two weeks, we called back yesterday and repeated the same complaint. A receptionist took notes and promised that we would have a call back today. Unsurprisingly, we never got a call. We've given Brownie's plenty of time to correct a problem, but they just keep blowing us off. It seems that Brownie's preys upon the ignorance of its customers to sell them expensive and unnecessary services. I think that's the epitome of a scam business. My recommendation is to avoid Brownie's Septic and take your business elsewhere.

This is not an inexpensive place, but they provide a very nice, modern and clean facility. There's a customer cafe inside (though it always seems closed when I visit). My main reason for coming here is service, as it is the nearest dealer around for Dodge. On my recent visit, I had a problem with an indicator light. Turns out some fuzzy rodent was chewing on the cables. That, along with a recommended system upgrade, cost nearly $500. They replaced the cables and the warning lights went away. On the other hand, my Cruise Control no longer works. I called and will have to drop off my car again for this repair. They don't offer any loaner vehicles or have a rental service nearby, but there's a shuttle service until 5:00pm. For those of us who work util 5:00, it means cutting some corners at the office to use it. Honestly, I expected them to test everything before my vehicle was returned to me. The fact that I now have to drop it off again and sit at home waiting for them to repair something they screwed up is annoying. There's no charge for them to fix their screw-up, but there's also no recompense for the inconvenience.

The nice thing about getting a sandwich in a bakery is that the bread is always fresh and there are plenty of options. In fact, you're overloaded with bread because there's another piece of bread served with your meal. It's especially great when you get a piece fresh out of the oven - you know, the kind where "hot" comes out when you bite into it. They usually put a sourdough as the extra piece, but you can ask for a multigrain bread if you prefer. The soups are OK, but nothing to rave about. The bagels are pretty decent and there are a plethora of sweets in the front of the shop. I'm a bit annoyed with the Green tea instead of the traditional Orange Pekoe for my iced tea, but I guess they think that's trendy or something. It's a decent place for a quick meal. Not quite as healthy as many folks think, but it's a change from burgers, wings or pizza.

I stayed there during a Christmas vacation. The enormous lobby really sets the mood. Great wood texture, the service is outstanding and I enjoyed the restaurants. The rooms were functional and not bad, but not great. For the highly cost of $330, I actually expected a bit more luxury from one of Disney's top flight hotels. Instead, it was just another hotel room at an enormous price. That part was a big letdown as far as value for the price paid. It's by no means a bad place. The room just didn't rate as high as the price.

I usually like Chipotle's for a quick meal, but this one had the lowest food quality that I've ever experienced. I don't know if it's because of their food storage or if they have lower quality suppliers than other locations. The meal was edible, but not fresh or delicious. I'd rather drive further to another Chipotle's than visit this location again.
