If you're reading this, you've quite likely received a request to connect from me.

If not , and you are someone with multiple sclerosis or a disability, please feel free to send me a request.

I write about life with MS in Ireland on irelandms.com, and contribute to the national MS Society of Ireland's blog and the Novartis MS blog also. Hopefully we can share ideas, ways of dealing with symptoms and just that bit of extra inspiration we sometimes need.

Slán,

[NEW] "So, you’re single. And chronically ill. On Valentine’s Day. But, what the heck, you don’t care. You don’t care because you’re an alpha-woman even when you sometimes feel like a z-woman… zonked out on meds on the couch. You don’t care because, seriously, you don’t have to go shopping to find sexy lingerie that’ll only cut off your air supply while wearing it. You don’t care because you know that the only thing you can find in a chocolate box is a raised BMI."

"Once again, the UNCRPD ratification delay by Daíl Éireann’s is not OK. It is demeaning, humiliating and holding people with disabilities for ransom in a political agenda. Assuming that people will “just take” another ratification delay is abusive. We don’t need buzzwords or platitudes, we’ve had enough of them throughout the years. It is about a date, a date that will finally give people with disabilities the same rights as in other European countries.

Or, is that too much to ask?"

[UPDATED] "Whatever your negative thinking tells you right this minute, science and the best minds in psychology agree that being happy and having mental strength are skills that you can learn, and if not, that there are other ways of going about it."

[UPDATED] Sometimes it’s hard to pin down which illness you have, as symptoms can look and feel alike. This is the case with MS and fibromyalgia. However, they are very different illnesses. Despite the overlap in symptoms, diagnostic methods and profile risks, having one doesn’t put you at a higher risk of having the other illness.

[UPDATED] "While some people often cannot remember when their chronic illness first grabbed them by the throat, I vividly remember the day mine showed up. Disarming moments like these are meant to grab your attention for a reason. You will always find the moral of the story once you dig deeper in the mindset of the one at the mercy of their own body."
