Flatro

I'm excited to announce that I've taken ownership of Flatro, originally created and designed by the great +Ryan Kelly .This is a theme that I've greatly admired since it's release in 2013. Back when it was released, Flatro was a fresh take on the flat style. At the time, the majority of themes were flat, stock, and fairly repetitive. Flatro aimed to be different with a subtle grungy texture and unique retro style. It's truly a timeless pack, and in my opinion should installed on any icon pack collector's device.

Flatro has just been transferred over to my dev account today so it's currently the same version that was live under Ryan's dev account. I'll be putting out the first update sometime this weekend with the same app dashboard that my top themes use as well as fixing any broken activities that I find.

Going forward I'll be working on a big update for Flatro that will add in a lot of new icons and make some tweaks to existing icons. Eventually it will be added to my top themes collection and receive updates on a weekly basis. The overall design and style won't be changing much. I'll keep you posted as I begin to make progress on this update.

Big thanks to Ryan for allowing me to take ownership of Flatro. It's definitely going to be a challenge to recapture the magic of the Flatro style. However, it's a challenge that I'm excited to undertake and confident that I can successfully complete!

App Dashboard Updates

I'll be finishing  up top theme updates today with an improved application dashboard. Here's a quick breakdown of the some of the new improvements :

- Improved app UI - new animations and cleaner graphics
- Added support for LG Home
- Added more launchers to Apply section and quick tips for changing icons and walls
- Added back latest changelog in navigation drawer
- Added ability to remove icons from icon request list

Thanks to +Addie Baker for his continued development of this application source. It's the best in the business and it only continues to improve.

Great update. The LG Home is a definite + for a lot of people. Easy access to the changelog is great too.

Gotta say your aim has the user/customer in mind. SC without a doubt is one of the best in the business because your approach it as a business.

Devo icon pack but in smart launcher pro 3. But in my default launcher the icon is of the ball so most likely could be a launcher bug or something

Introducing Custom Themes

Custom Themes is a new icon pack product line that I'm working on. I want to explain what this category is now, to avoid confusion later once a custom theme is released.

Inspiration

The Android icon pack world has become pretty stale over the past several months. Material design packs have saturated the market. I think there's only a handful that stand out from the crowd with originality. The rest are basically the same theme with a slight differences. It seems every month there's less and less icon packs that take significant design risks and aim to be different. I have to admit that I'm guilty of doing this myself. Custom themes represents my new commitment to icon pack excellence and a different approach than my top themes have used.

Quality over Quantity

The packs that are going to be added to the custom themes collection won't be so reliant on the stock based resources that my top themes use. A handcrafted approach will be used for every single icon. Because of that, each icon takes a lot more time to complete. It's tedious and challenging but the end result is worth it.

Requests and Updates

I've come to accept the never ending flood of icon requests. It's an never ending battle of satisfying as many icon requests as possible and fixing activities. While I think generally it's a nice feature to have,  I also think some users have become too reliant on it and have lost appreciation for the actual art of the pack. The icon request option will be removed for any custom themes. I'll be focusing on adding only the most popular apps and games to each theme. Custom themes will most likely be updated every 3-4 weeks.

Top Themes

Custom themes is a completely separate category from top themes. All top themes will continue to be updated on a weekly basis. I'm also not abandoning the top theme category so expect more top theme releases in the future.

Let me know in the comments what you think of this new category. The first custom theme is already in development and should be ready for release early September!

A fantastic idea! Because of this saturation I've come to rely on only a very few designers. Yourself & only 2 or 3 others.

I'm so glad Andrew Gallagher & his Costal Images have stepped in again. They strive to be original.

I've always felt your packs have always stood out through all the trends. The fact that your stepping it up is just incredible. I can't imagine what you're gonna come up with. I can't wait!

Stealth users - Please Read

After running a poll in my design community yesterday, I've come to a decision about the new Stealth 4.0 beta. I'm canceling the Stealth beta version. The current version that is in Play Store production will remain in production and continue to be updated weekly. I decided on this for a couple of reasons that I want to explain.

The poll shows that there's still a significant percentage of active Stealth users who prefer the current version. I realize now I should have ran this poll at the beginning of the beta test. This poll represents a small sample of the thousands of active users of Stealth. So imagine the flood of 1 stars, revised reviews, and uninstalls if I were to upload this version to production. It would be a nightmare and I would have a lot of unhappy users wanting the original Stealth back.

I know I can't please everyone. However, there's a very fine line between tweaking a design and completely overhauling an original design that many active users are happy with. I didn't realize I had crossed over to the latter until running the poll yesterday. The majority did vote for the new Stealth. It just wasn't as decisive as I expected and needed it to be to continue on with the new version.

As of today Stealth is the highest ranked icon pack in the Play Store at #5 (Top Paid Personalization in US) and is one of the few paid icon packs that has over 50K installs. It just doesn't make sense to try to perfect the design of Stealth when there's obviously a lot of people who have no problems with it. I will make some small tweaks to some icons (mostly alignment fixes and inconsistent sizes). However, I won't be making any drastic design changes to Stealth going forward. Thanks to everyone who has downloaded Stealth and helped in making it a big success!

I apologize to those of you who preferred this new version and spent time beta testing it. I'll be keeping the current beta version active in the Play Store until next Friday's weekly update. After that the beta version will be no longer be supported. So, if you want to keep this new version of Stealth, don't update on Friday and make sure the automatic updates option is unchecked for Stealth in the Play Store.

Cool, I'm looking forward to it. That being said, the icon masking does a really good job a lot of the time (especially for Stealth).

Weekly Updates and Icon Requests

Starting tomorrow I'll be returning to weekly updates for all 14 of my top themes. Updates will now be pushed out early Friday morning. I'll continue to show a preview image of the new icons here on G+ on Friday as well. You can now expect to see 20-25 new icons on most weeks.

Just a reminder - The most highly requested icons are completed first. I also like to add in new trending apps and games that have potential to stay popular in the future.

I'm working on adding a premium icon request page on my website. You may have an app that you really want covered, but know it most likely will never be included because it's an obscure app or just not requested a lot by other users. Premium requests are designed for those type of apps. I'll let you know once that gets completed.

Thank you for supporting my work!
