+Newcity RECOMMENDED! +Commedia Beauregard's cast is "engaging and lively, their comic timing precise in both the incessant line delivery and the intermittent physical slapstick" and "the indie folk stylings of the balladic commentary...provide the most searing and poetic text of the entire show... an entertaining production of The Mandrake." #Mandrake2014

Chicago Theater Beat says "The uniqueness of [+Commedia Beauregard's] whimsical re-imagining makes it worth exploring." #Mandrake2014
This adaptation of The Mandrake is filled with many such fun moments, and the smart production design and original music add to the festivities. Not all of the moments work so well, though, but at least the production misses while by chances rather than playing it safe. The uniqueness of this whimsical re-imagining makes it worth exploring. Callimaco's manservant Siro is clearly not as dumb as he looks. But he looks pretty dumb. #Mandrake2014

Sostrata sure does like her martinis. Almost as much as she likes Father Timoteo! #Mandrake2014

Under the convincing guise of a learned doctor (he IS wearing a bowtie and cape after all), Callimaco convinces Nicia that there is only one way he can have a son with Lucrezia... and... it's complicated. #Mandrake2014

The scheming Liguria decieves Father Timoteo to get her way... while also continuing to decieve poor, gullible Nicia. #Mandrake2014
