I have done canoeing, kayaking and white-water rafting on various rivers dozens of times. Given its proximity to NY/Phil, the Lehigh is a great choice and there a few outfits in the area that do good work. On our most recent trip, I took 13 BoyScouts on a rainy, spring "Dam Release" weekend (when the water moves and one is less likely to hung up on rocks) and we had a GREAT time. The entire process, including the fairly-priced items at the snack bar and store, the cleanliness of the camp-site and other facilities, the obvious care and professionalism of the many staff, make me recommend Whitewater Challengers to anyone. The process of camping, checking in, getting equipment, riding the buses, getting into the rafts was well thought out and ran well. A lot of preparation went into this River guides were skilled and professional . . . handling the various skill levels and ensuring we had fun, but were also safe (I've been on rivers before and Class III rapids can get crazy, very quickly). Great value for the money and time. Good equipment and wonderful, caring staff. A well-run organization

This was our second visit and both have been more negative than positive. The first visit due to too much horsing around, my husband that couldn't swim was knocked into the water into the rapids and his head hit a rock. I dove in after him and dove right onto the rocks, screwing up my knees pretty bad. Other people on our trip that day got whacked in the face with an oar and someone got clocked in the head with a bucket of water. Since we did have some fun on the trip we decided to go again, even though was husband was pretty afraid. I expressed my concern for there to be more emphasis on safety to numerous leaders on the rafting trip yesterday. We went onto a raft that had a bunch of 19 year olds and one of them was the "captain of the boat"/ One of them was standing up in the boat and we ran into a rock and 3 of us, me included) shot straight out into the water. This time I landed on my sacrum on a big rock that was there. One of the rafts got stuck on a rock (pyramid rock) and the whole boat capsized in fast rapids. Another boat had a child in it that go knocked out and ended up going through the rapids by himself. I realize there are risks involved with this kind of adventure activity. The safety orientation is way too short and there is virtually no instruction on how to use the paddles, buckets, or how to navigate rougher rapids, big rocks etc.

We had a great experience...being our first whitewater trip. The guides paired us up with another family and that really made it fun. Others have advised us to go on dam release day and i have to say that really made the trip more exciting. we went to the gorge the next day and the water level was low so it would have been difficult to raft the water. Our guides were terrific, Kevin, especially. We had a large group and they did an outstanding job of making sure that we all stayed together, even with other large groups on the river. We bought the premade lunches and they were very basic, but ithe saved me the hassle of buying my own stuff to put it together. This outfit is very well organized and most of the people really like what they do. I have to agree the customer service people are really on the rude side. I found them to have very little patience on answering questions and when it took me some time to dig out my credit card, the woman got impatient with me.

Over the years, I've gone on 3 trips with Whitewater Challengers and I think they do a great job. I have extensive whitewater and canoeing experience and can say that they bridge the wide chasm between a) making it safe and fun for beginners on their day trips from NYC or Philly and b) having a realistic river adventure reasonably well. Equipment is good. Logistics are well thought out and efficient. Natural scenery along the Lehigh is worthwhile (much better than the Delaware and a lot closer than the Gauly or New) and the guides/staff know what they are doing. People have fun and get a little exercise and fresh air. This is a tough challenge for this business -- they work all year for 12~18 weekends -- and imo, they do a very good job making the outings fun, safe and worthwhile for their diverse customer base.

Booked a bachelor party rafting trip over a month prior to the actual trip, for 9 guys. They call me the day before (less than 18 hrs) before the trip and let me know the dam release schedule has changed and the rafting will now only be a level 1. I was little disappointed, but it is understandable. Need to let them know in 2 hours! if I would like to cancel and get a full refund. And they can also book us for their other activities, but no discount or compensation will be provided. Alright no problem. I talked to couple of guys and booked the 9am paint-balling that was offered to me. I get there and the people don't know that we were booked for paint balling. We wait around for a little and they say that it will start at 10am. So we wait another 45 mins and they come and tell us the paint balling is canceled cause they couldn't get enough refs for the game and they will offer us a full refund or we can play at 1pm. We drove from NY/NJ and at this point have very limited options, so we decided to play at 1pm. They still refused to compensate us for the horrible customer service - no discount on the game, no additional pelets, nothing!! We come at 1pm and the guy running it didn't seem to want to take us out. He asked us if we want to reschedule and then made us wait over 30 mins for another group to show up. We get to the paint balling place and it is out in the woods. It is definitely for more experienced paintballers who have mastered the man made courses. There are lot more factors you need to aware of - watch out for rocks & ditches, the refs can hardly see who is shot, the boundaries are not clearly defined etc. The guy running it did the best he could, but if you want something more organized Skirmish is so much better and it is the same price. I also saw the ziplining course and that is joke! Definitely not worth it to go to this place. The customer service is horrible!!
