West Torrance Robotics participated for the 2nd year in a row in the 2014 SCRRF Fall Classic. It was a great day as the team got Abe up and running again and saw many friends from FRC teams from all over Southern California. A big thank you to Kok Won (Shung), the Heidemans, Matt Mizuta, Mrs Evans and our parent and mentor supporters. We are grateful to FIRST! SCRRF and the Tigears of Valencia High School for organizing such a fun event. We wish all teams good luck in the 2015 season!

H-E-L-P...Please vote for us to get a $2,500 grant from Farmers Insurance.   We hope to make this message go viral

Our teacher/advisor Mrs. Christy Evans has applied for a grant from Farmers Insurance. It is called "Thank a Million Teachers" and gives out a $2500 grant to teachers. To receive the grant, the teacher must get the top 6 amount of votes in the region, for us, it's the Southwest region. Mrs. Evans is currently 20th in the region!

You can vote once EVERY DAY!   Voting ends on October 31st, so we need to start racking up votes now.

This is a HUGE opportunity to cover a portion of our expenses.

Here's the link to the website: https://www.thankamillionteachers.com/vote-for-a-proposal/vote-for-a-proposal-form/
Search  "Torrance" for city (but don't enter in the state or zip code) or "Evans" for last name. It should say: "C. Evans, West High School, Torrance, CA Help us Build Lots'o Bots" Sometimes it does not pop up, so you may have to refresh the page a couple of times.

SPACEX is awesome!!! Elon Musk is amazing!!!  Thank you to Wendy Ito (Alex's Mom) for organizing the tour of SpaceX.   A big shoutout to Lillian Haney who gave us an awesome tour of the entire plant.   What a way to spend a summer.   Please help us find engineering mentors and sponsors.  We are on a roll again.   We start Solid Works Computer Aided Design (CAD) workshops every Saturday in July from 1-4 in the Robotics Room.  Our Raytheon Mentor Brandon Ioki and our new mentor from Honeywell Tabitha will be there to help us start our journey to learn how to CAD.   2014-15 is going to be the Year of West Torrance Robotics.   It's gonna be EPIC!!!!

West Torrance Robotics was recognized by the Torrance City Council for the many accomplishments the team achieved this year.   The elected officials showed a keen interest in the work WTR is doing in Torrance to promote FIRST and STEM.   Teacher Advisor Christy Evans talked about how the team is building a solid foundation of robot-eers by mentoring and teaching middle school students from Jefferson and Bert Lynn Middle Schools at West High to help them learn how to build robots.   She also spoke of how the team is helping Victor and Towers Elementary Schools start robotics teams.    What an awesome way to end the school year.  Does it get any better than this????  Thank you to Mayor Scotto and the entire Torrance City Council for your support of our efforts.  Let's make the City of Torrance the Robotics Hub of the World!!!!!!!!!    We were grateful to Councilwoman Heidi Ashcraft for asking how we funded the club's operations.   We need help for the 2014-15 season and we need sponsors and mentors to come and join our team.   Please come and join our incredible journey.
