[New Episode of THE MOLEBASHES] The Simple Life
This comic speaks for itself. This is a constant battle that I face. When in doubt, I just don't buy junk for myself. Sometimes it's easier to just not own the Dave Brubeck album rather than try to decide which industry gets my support and which one gets my cold shoulder.

I have the same dilemma whenever I'm considering buying a game or a comic. Comics & games stores are already such a niche specialty that I really feel like if I don't buy it there, I'm dumping a shovelful of dirt on their grave.

[New Episode of THE MOLEBASHES] Strike Out
I like sports, but I do not excel at sports. I'll be a horrible coach for Parker when the times comes, but I plan to make up for it with a wealth of encouragement, support, and loud cheering.

[New Episode of THE MOLEBASHES] Beard Growth
About once a year, usually when autumn has finally settled in leaving summer a distant memory, I give my razor a break and let my beard grow out. Perhaps calling it a "beard" is a little presumptuous; it's more like a "coarse stubble." Give me a couple weeks and I can definitely get a good "George Michael" goin' on. During those seasons when I decide to let my facial hair flourish, I'm quickly reminded why I dislike growing a beard. Specifical...

[New Episode of THE MOLEBASHES] Video Monitor
Video monitors are amazing. Seriously. We don't have an expensive video monitor, either. We have possibly the cheapest one you can get. It doesn't have a mobile app, there's no motion sensor, and the screen is pretty tiny. But we're blown away by it. It makes Kari and I wonder what parents did before video monitors were invented. I don't even think my parents had AUDIO MONITORS when my sister and I were little. To tell the truth, it's a wo...

[New Episode of THE MOLEBASHES] Fatherly Wisdom
Dads are know-it-alls, and we typically know a lot about stuff that doesn't really matter (TV shows, comic books, movies, algebra*, etc.). Despite the lack of important information filling our brainholes, we love to share our bounty of useless knowledge with our progeny in hopes that one day they, too, will pass this information down to their own children. Even though Parker is still very young, I've started sharing as much information as I ca...

[New Episode of THE MOLEBASHES] Baby Tech
I really did think I'd have my son surrounded by tech by this age. Quite the opposite. I've actually been trying to keep him away from it to a certain extent. It breaks my heart a little that he knows to grab my phone and swipe his finger across it, or point the remote at the TV when I'm watching a show he doesn't like. He's a year-and-a-half! He's not supposed to be technologically adept, yet! He still craps in his pants, for crying out loud!...

[New Episode of THE MOLEBASHES] Sign of Adulthood
Lately, my wife and I have been Netflix-binging on home renovation programs. We love these shows even though it's obvious they're all scripted. The thing is, after a while, they all start to feel like the same show. So I'd like to suggest three home improvement shows I'd like to see HGTV option: 1. THE MEDIOCRE HANDYMAN: Every episode of THE MEDIOCRE HANDYMAN features Joe Average, a middle-aged husband and father, as he tackles small home repa...

[New Episode of THE MOLEBASHES] "M" as in "Mary"
I have a weird last name. For those wondering, it's pronounced just like it's spelled: "Mole" (like the rodent) and "bash" (as if you're going to hit said rodent). And, yes, I've heard "Whack-a-mole" jokes MY ENTIRE LIFE. But I digress... Having a weird last name means you have to spell it a lot for people. Especially if you're placing an order or making a reservation. I hate spelling my last name over the phone to people, so I've recently...

[New Episode of THE MOLEBASHES] Music Hater
Not sure what the deal is, but Parker is freaked out by my guitar. It's a fairly non-imposing Taylor 314CE, but the kid doesn't know what to make of the thing. Every time I bust it out to play a few jams, the boy just stares at the guitar intently before clinging to his mom and crying. Perhaps I'm a horrible musician. Actually, I know I am, but that's beside the point. No matter how badly I'm playing, it's not like I'm rocking death metal!...

Perhaps he's a bit sensitive to the vibrations of the chords. Maybe he wants EDM?

For me, most sopranos are unacceptably shrill and I can't stand to listen to them sing -- it just pierces deep to my core and resonates off-cycle. Also, country twang does the same thing :)

[New Episode of THE MOLEBASHES] Giant Leap
One of the best parts of being a parent is watching your child discover things. It really is awesome to watch their faces when they first encounter certain sounds, foods, textures, and sensations. When I'm carrying Parker down the steps or walking outside, I like to jump off the last step or curb while holding him tight in my arms. He giggles EVERY. TIME. I can only imagine he's feeling the sensation of his stomach rolling, and it gets me psyc...
