The report of the German Physical Society on the Karlsruhe Physics Course is the first attack on the freedom of teaching, which comes directly from physics and not from religious fundamentalists. Why well-trained, supposedly intelligent physicists publicise such nonsense is a mystery to me. What frightens me is the fact that there has been no rebellion within the GPS against this incompetent, malicious and damaging action.

In english:
I think and demand complete freedom for research and teaching and protection against ideological and religious influences; it applies not only to physics but to all disciplines. Especially in medicine (the right to abortion) should not be claimed religious influence here. Ethics is a matter of philosophy and not of the natural sciences.4 j
This made me go and pick up [classical mechanics the theoretical minimum] by Leonard Susskind and George Hrabovsky. Don't get further than page 19 and trigonometry; where it starts explaining radian, and that velocity and distance in an angle isn't used in physics. Which of course carry with it a few assumptions about what's between the angles and uniformity, potentially throwing anyone off theory or philosophy of physics and onto understanding one formulae at a time.3 j
