Even today, stigmas and unclear understandings about eat disorders and mental illness still exist within our society. Fortunately, more people are coming forward to discuss why it’s so important that we try to understand and help those who are struggling each day.

One of these leaders is 18 year-old University of California, Santa Cruz student and Yoga Teacher, Maris Degener. Maris began her wellness journey as she was recovering from her eating disorder at a hospital. She was given the tools and assistance that she needed to help her body recover from her disorder, but she realized that the medical center didn’t provide what she needed to help her mind heal.

Even though she’s now a freshman in college, get ready to hear a great deal of insight from Maris on how we can discover self purpose, uncover happiness, and help change the stigma surrounding eating disorders and mental illness.
"They might not be able to understand that what's going through a person's mind doesn't represent the person, but the mental illness." - Maris Degener on why it's important

The journey of losing weight is not easy.
Anyone who has tried to lose weight in the past knows that all too well, but our guest today not only shares his struggles with using food as comfort to process his emotions, but how he finally broke free of using food as a form of self medication.
Josh Trent, of Wellness Force Radio has fantastic advice for us all on how to grow to love our bodies from a place of abundance and trust, rather than a place of anger (like so many of us do).

“Our dietary choices play a major role in determining whether we are going to live into our 80s and 90s and even beyond with a good, functioning brain or like 50% of people who live to be age 85, we will experience brain decline in the form of Alzheimer’s which is a preventable disease.”- Dr. David Perlmutter

Inspiring greater wellness in over one million people to live life well
Introduction
Through adversity in life, Josh was led astray from the benefits of health into his early adulthood. At age 21 he weighed 260 pounds and was on a fast track to becoming "a follower" in life. His perseverance of a true quest for health at age 22 led him to quit his job at Mercedes-Benz in San Diego, CA and move to Oahu, Hawaii to study fitness with the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

After a 75 pound weight loss in 2004, he moved to Las Vegas, NV and became a Corrective Exercise Specialist learning under the watchful eye of numerous industry professionals such as Juan Carlos Santana (IHP) and Todd Durkin (FQ10). Josh has trained over 10,000 sessions helping people from athletes to special populations and rehabilitation.
