Due to expected extreme weather conditions, the chapter meeting on Wednesday, March 12th, is CANCELLED. We are researching opportunities to reschedule the workshop and program to a later day in March. Stay Safe!

Wilderness First Aid Workshop Report

Submitted by Bruce Tehan

The Genesee Valley Chapter of the Adirondak Mountain Club recently facilitated a Wilderness First Aid Workshop. The workshop had an online component and a hands-on session which took place on March 9th 2014.  The workshop was open to both members and nonmembers of ADK.  ADK members received a partial reimbursement for the class.  The class was taught by National Safety Council Instructor, Holger Stave, http://www.wildernessfirstaidny.com/home.  Perinton Volunteer Ambulance (http://www.perintonambulance.org/) graciously allowed the workshop to take place at their facilities.  Please join GVC-ADK in thanking Perinton Volunteer Ambulance, Holger Stave, and the students for making the workshop a success!

Beautiful pictures by Cindy Halpern from the annual Three Falls Hike (aka Pancake Hike) in Letchworth on February 23rd.

A 5.5 miles snowshoe hike was followed by a visit to Cartwright's Maple Tree Inn in Angelica, NY for a treat of buckwheat pancakes with maple syrup!

A non-profit conservation, recreation, and education organization
Introduction

The Adirondack Mountain Club is a non-profit organization that, through its various chapters and lodges, operates exclusively for conservation, recreation and educational purposes and whose assets and earnings profit no member, officer or employee.

The Genesee Valley Chapter is also a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization. We are extremely active in the scheduling of outings. Our trip calendar has something for everyone: hiking, backpacking, X-C skiing, snowshoeing, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing and cave exploration. The difficulties of these trips range from easy for the beginner, to challenging for the expert. There's always at least one beginners trip in each of the categories so it's a great opportunity to try out a new sport. Through our conservation committee we keep current (and often take active stands) on such issues as acid rain, state land acquisition and local park planning.
