Google, Bing, and Organic Bling!

Most local businesses are aware of Google’s powerful reach and the advantages afforded via. Adwords and organic ranking. The best web strategies are built to “feed” Google Bot what it wants, and in return soar to the top of search results.

Often, local businesses overlook the power of proper website architecture and code that can provide clear signals that you are open for business.

For example, structured data tells Google exactly what your pages are about. It also helps websites stand out in search results. Another example is leveraging Google+, as this social platform is a great way to capture the attention of consumers in your local market. And getting a link from Google to your website is not a bad thing!

Bing, another search engine, seems to be an oldie, but goodie. At this time, Bing controls approximately 20% of the search market. That may seem like a low number, but in this digital world, that’s an amount not to ignore! Just like Google, Bing has its advantages. Bing has less competition, making it easier to rank higher, and you can see ranking results quicker. Bing Ads are less expensive too. Bing is also more transparent of how they rank sites and what you need to do in order to improve your ranking. This is extremely powerful for business visibility!

It’s very possible that Bing will make gains in popularity when you consider some of the improvements they are gearing up for their users. For outdoor enthusiasts, they now have map features, and searches for hiking trails. You can now check out homes for sale, video lists, radio stations. You can even benefit from Bing with searches for healthy recipes and exercise. Including Bing in your efforts to rank your website is a solid business decision!

The following video from Google helps shed some light on “How does Google separate popularity from authority?”

Website Considerations – HTTP vs HTTPS https://webfoxmarketing.com/website-considerations-http-vs-https/

It is well known that Google controls the majority search queries and does a great job in delivering solid search results. To increase your chance of showing up, it’s important to have a secure website. An effective first step involves a switch from HTTP to HTTPS. You may have noticed that Google issues a warning message on web pages, that have not made this transition. This is certainly not the way to get anyone to linger longer, learn more about your business, and all it has to offer. Visitors are going to quickly exit, and most likely, never to return.

Changing your website to HTTPS is a technical process, and requires a few steps. In order to avoid problems, it also includes proper planning and implementation.

When HTTPS is secured through Transport Layer Security protocol, it offers three layers of protection. Encryption makes it so no one can track users’ activity across pages or steal information. Data integrity protects so that data can’t be modified or corrupted during transfer without being detected. Finally, authentication makes it clear that users are at the intended site. It’s also nice to know that ads cannot be injected on sites with HTTPS.

Problems can still occur and you could still be vulnerable to some attacks. Plugins, modules, and add-ons need to be updated. External scripts should support this transition as well. Most problems tend to involve improperly implemented redirects, which can involve home pages and sub-pages. These are just a few aspects regarding this transition and a knowledgeable webmaster, can pave a smooth road to travel.

Here is a great video by Google (notice the date is 2011!), talking about the importance of HTTPS;

Social Media Matters https://webfoxmarketing.com/social-media-matters/

People talk! We all know that! Whether it’s good or bad, online or off, they talk! When it comes to your business online, having knowledge about these conversations is important. You can learn how they are impacting your reputation. This impacts your business. Popularity on social media definitely ties in with SEO more now than ever. It is crucial for social media to play a key role in your SEO strategy. Learn how to guide it and manipulate it positively.

Leveraging your social media network by posting on a regular basis is a good idea.

You can share new information as well as re-posting older information which can tap visitors’ interests and then link them with new content. It is helpful to make your posts intriguing by including some excerpts from your content, or its introduction, something that piques interest to click and then hopefully to read the entire post and perhaps others. This is much more possible if you make certain that navigation to other pages is easy to manage.

Variety is the spice of life and it can increase potential clicks. Share this variety either through some news, blogs, videos. Visuals can be very effective as attention grabbers. Illustrations can also make you stand out and inspire clicks to view. It is wise to analyze how something posted is viewed, liked or shared. Knowing what is interesting to viewers can help you continue connecting with others by offering similar content.

Getting back to those conversations that naturally occur with people. Google indexes content on your site, but it also takes into consideration, though to a lesser degree, the comments and responses on blog posts. The latter won’t improve SEO greatly, but it can certainly increase the return of visitors.

Google publishes great content and tips related to social media. Check out this video “Does Google use data from social sites in ranking?”  .

SEO Insights: Know The Signals

Searching for knowledge, it’s an everyday occurrence! We search online for restaurants, physicians, stores, theaters, schools, specific items, locations, and answers to all types of questions. Information is literally at our fingertips. We are in an age of instant gratification as well. Quick results matter or else we move on. In the world of business, it is important to know the signals of users. This can impact your Google, Bing, and Yahoo rankings and therefore, your success.

The goal of any SEO strategy and website is to be usable, user friendly, and trigger engagement.

These are requirements for any business to succeed as well. If you aren’t living up to these, Google knows! And if Google knows, not many others will because you will rank at rock bottom. Google organizes information for the masses. It presents what is regarded as most useful and available for search queries. An important aspect that is considered in Google’s assessment, or results, is the behavior of users! They’re referred to as user signals, and Google takes these very seriously!

Bounce Rate is one of these user signals, and it can be hard to measure depending on the type of website. You want a low rate when it comes to this. Basically, it means that a user is bouncing around from one site and back to Google’s SERPs, from the search engine results. The user is not lingering. This is an indication it’s not worth their time, or meeting the needs of their internet search query. Users might only click on one page, or some pages more than others. They might only read one blog’s post and move on. The important thing is to figure out why this is happening and make improvements that will be more appealing to others.

Click Through Rate (CTR) is another type of user signal. You want a high rate with this one, which means users are choosing your website instead of others. Google keeps track and regards this as your site meeting the needs of users. This ranks you higher in the search results too, being regarded as the best for that type of search. You can monitor the CTR of your website and your different pages. Looking at those pages that tend to be low, you assess why that is and make improvements.

There are some other user signals. Time spent on a website is one of them. The percentage of users that return to your website is another one. This can all be monitored with Google Analytics. Being mindful of user signals is good for optimizing your website. This in turn, is chosen by more users. Better experiences generate better rankings.

Web Design and Marketing: Merger

Whether there exists the need to design a website or redesign it, there are numerous aspects to consider first. This includes two crucial areas: search engines and content. Both are important as integral parts of the design of any site in order to be successful in today’s technological world. Design and SEO advantages must be intertwined. If a site is developed with the thought of adding marketing later, it’s problematic. This is just as true should a site get designed without the end user in mind at all. This is not the formula for success. The design of websites must include SEO and SEM best practices and must solve the searchers query.

Search engines are rewarded for providing a quality experience for its users.

They want happy, satisfied customers. That generates longer visits, which increases social shares. And improves your brand. And that in turn, increases sales with goods and services. Sites must be easy to navigate and use for both desk tops and mobile devices. These all begin with designing eyes!

With building a website, we utilize the term architecture. The designer needs to be diligent with its framework and all aspects in order construct a stable, long lasting, profitable site. Quality content is key these days and it tells search engines what pages are all about. Questions and their answers mold the design. What is the purpose for each page? What do users want, need to obtain knowledge about their searched topic? What type of content is needed in order to convey our message? Answers to these questions inform the design which must accommodate necessary content.

Is Your Social Audience Listening?

Social media marketing is effective, affordable, and it doesn’t matter whether it involves a large company or a small one. The goal is to place an effective message in front of your targeted audience, generate engagement, and then track and measure it all. It is important to always keep focused on the company’s goals and find that audience pertinent to your objectives.

A long-standing expression, “the customer is always right,” is one to remember and take seriously. In today’s techno era, not only does the customer matter, but customers talk. Whether it’s pro or con, their opinion circulates and impact others. Today that circulation is so widespread with social media, review sites, as well as word of mouth. Being mindful of others’ feedback is crucial. Listening to this data closely enables you to improve and strengthen your business, as well as your enhancing the connection with customers online.

Social media marketing is key for any online campaign. This is never so true as that connection between business and client, company and customer.

This provides the opportunity to curtail any misunderstandings, disappointments, or problems that have arisen. It is important to keep these small, taking care of them before they develop into anything larger. It is even better if conflicts can be prevented by knowing the needs of the audience you strive for. Learning from opinions about competitors can benefit the formation and direction of your business. In time, happy customers will generate more of them and their satisfaction stories are shared on those social platforms.

Remember that success is knowing your audience thoroughly. Being savvy in obtaining knowledge is important, both the likes and dislikes. Analyzing this data can direct the right changes within your company. It’s smart business. It’s wise to start out small with social media platforms. Begin with a couple of them that truly target your audience. Once these are established, then branch out more in accordance with the growth you’re seeing.

If you have any questions regarding your social media marketing, or would like help establishing one, please give us a call. We’d love to hear from you. Web Fox Marketing is a Michigan SEO and web design agency. We serve our local community throughout Oakland County MI and beyond.
