And another website to follow today...
Just thought I would post something, as I haven't for a while. I have been too busy - a familiar, prosaic, and let's be frank, very poor excuse.
My latest offering to the World Wide Web is this little baby ...

I went to a meeting today at Tilshead to discuss some changes to a website (more about that in another post). From Bristol it is just over an hour traveling towards Salisbury. My slightly scenic route, as opposed to the fast one, takes me through a little village called Edington. If you are ever out that way it is really worth checking out Edington Priory Church. The church dates back to 1361 and has some great monuments and sepulchres inside. Two 14C ones were relocated here from a church in Imber after the army appropriated the village in 1943 - a little detail that has a tenuous link to the project I went to discuss in Tilshead. Here endeth (seemed like a good word when discussing a church) my historic ramble - literal and linguistic.

I have just finished a website that offers courses in social care. More specifically, it deals with child protection and child sexual abuse. Suzi Moore, the trainer, is very switched on and dedicated to improving the knowledge and the skills needed when handling the victims of abuse. http://www.csa-training.co.uk/

One of the nice things about designing websites is when you are introduced to ideas and subjects that are completely new to you. In order to be able to fulfill a design brief, and advise on how best to market a business you have to, on a rudimentary level, understand and engage with the nature of the clients business. A recent example of this was when I built a website for a client who wished to deliver an online IELTS marking course. Yes, we are talking International English Language Testing System and yes, I had to google it. Having launched the website this week and having listened to my very knowledgeable client a great deal, I don't feel half as ignorant as I did a few months ago.

So here's the thing, I am just about to do a big push for more freelance work - times is touch and you gotta be prepared to make the effort, put yourself out there! The key is to offer something different and aspire to offer services that are tangibly better than your competitors. So that's the challenge, say it, demonstrate it, and then SEO the hell out of it.
Well that's what I am thinking, and as I am cogitating and ruminating over originality etc, I realise I am offering something quite unique, and quite unintentional, in the banner of my website. I mean, how many Web Design companies advertise fish supplies?
I am guessing not many? What if someone wants me to deliver a website and half hundredweight of mackerel? O the price of trying to be a little different! .....

I am just finishing some updates and re-branding on a website I built a few years ago. The website is called Landmarc Locations (http://locations.landmarcsolutions.com) and it's a searchable database which showcases the land (220,000 hectares) and buildings owned by the MOD.

What's really cool is you can hire these amazing places out for film making, sports and special events.

Anyway, if you are a film maker, or into cycling, motorsports, archery, sailing etc, it is well worth checking out.
