In 2016 there were more than 2, 000, 000 applications in the App Store and nobody knows how many there are now. At the same time, a common user downloads about 4-6 new applications per year at best. How can you make your application one of those? Check out our list of iPhone app development trends, which will shape the course of 2017:

📱Internet of things
That’s not only iOS development trend for sure, it’s the whole new industry coming. Applications supporting IoT technologies, such as Jisp smart shopping application we’ve created, are already changing both customers’ and enterprises’ experience. And it seems quite clear, that in 2017 the IoT is going to be more widespread.
📱Apps supporting Augmented Reality and GPS
Augmented Reality has become broadly popular with Pokemon-Go's success in 2016. As well as in the domain of retail and automation. It can be expected that users will be deploying a combination of GPS and AR in 2017 as well.
📱IMessage Apps
The latest iOS 10 update has set the ideal base to develop and deploy high-end custom app extensions, and as a developer you should take advantage of that opportunity. Though it seems to be a short-living trend, as it’s practically impossible to keep one app at the top, you may be the first to win this race.

Facebook and Nvidia present open sourced Caffe 2 framework, giving a boost to machine learning technologies. Caffe 2 is written in C++ and supports OpenMP parallel interfaces for CPUs as well as CUDA parallel interfaces for offloading model training to Nvidia GPUs. The main improvement Caffe 2 brings is not just a multi-node, but also increased processing speed. Running on 8 GPU’s, Caffe 2 processes 1785 images per second, which provides much faster neural network training. This may have a synergistic effect on the industry — follow us to keep up and don’t miss key technology trends.

Good news, everyone! The TranSmart Foundation with its data-management system for translational biomedical research and I2B2 Foundation, which has developed a framework for using existing clinical and genomic data in precision medicine, are going to merge. "We are creating a platform and community that integrates clinical data with translational research data to finally realize the promise that precision medicine has to offer — tailoring treatments to an individual's unique characteristics," TranSmart Foundation CEO Keith Elliston said.

At WaveAccess we’ve gained much experience in science-intensive Transmart development and highly welcome the merge with all the possibilities it gives to both scientists and developers.

DevOps and Cloud are hot trends in application development, but combining them may be complicated. Check out our list of three key problems you should be aware of before trying to mix DevOps and cloud.

1⃣You’ll need both cloud and traditional software, as no cloud software provides all the tools you'll need. Apache Mesos, which enables users to build flexible distributed systems, could get the job done, but it requires applications to be written specifically for Mesos, so it’s not a one-box solution for all developers. Rancher would be a nice alternative, but it still misses VPN access to clusters, so you’ll have to use something else.
2⃣ The costs are higher than usually expected. As you can see, you’ll have to use some hybrid solution. And that will be costly.
3⃣ The Silver bullet DevOps tool is not there yet.

One day the mix of DevOps and Cloud could become a technology superhighway, but till then, it’s not that easy or even that useful for many businesses. Does your business need to combine DevOps and Cloud? Find out more at http://bit.ly/1jyrBFW

Gulp has finally outrun Grunt as the first choice build tool for frontend developers: it currently receives about 50% more downloads per day, while two years ago everything was just the opposite. But people still google grunt more often, and that can explain gulp’s victory: gulp makes it easy. Find out, how, in our latest blog update: http://bit.ly/2pyYab2

Last week, Facebook unveiled a project from its secretive Building 8 research group. They are working to create a straight brain-computer interface. That’s it, no typing, no voice recognition, just your thoughts working with a program. Although a full functional brain-computer interface is something we won't see soon, the first results are intriguing. Imagine an interface that allows a paralyzed patient to type just with his thoughts, even without eye-movement. That exists already and soon can be used widely. So who knows?

Cloud migration changes everything: not only your infrastructure, expenses, or application design, but in business processes, too. Changes are always challenges, so check out our list of typical cloud migration pitfalls to avoid:

— Underestimating costs
Cloud migration reduces expenses, but can be quite expensive itself. The most expensive part of migration is often moving storage or the data, as It can take several weeks or months to move large amounts of data.

— Taking it all
It wouldn't make a lot of sense to migrate an on-premises email application when you can simply start using an already existing cloud-based one. So you need to split the applications into two initial groups: apps that will be migrated and apps that will be replaced.

— Not moving forward
The Cloud is much more than just cheap storage; it’s a new environment with functionality you can take advantage of. So cloud migration is not about “lift and shift”, but about developing and changing processes.

Every year between 15 and 20 million people worldwide die from heart attacks and related illnesses. AI can reduce that number by 355 — not much, but that is just the beginning. Today, doctors mostly use American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (ACC/AHA) guidelines in order to predict an individual’s heart attacks risk. But these guidelines simply cannot cover all the interdependencies, and that’s where AI technologies come in. Stephen Weng, an epidemiologist at the University of Nottingham, used machine-learning algorithms to find less obvious correlations in existing data. His work resulted in a guideline, 7.6 percent more correct than the ACC/AHA one. That means 355 lives saved per year, and as we gather more and more data and train more complicated algorithms, that number will grow.
