"Our study confirms that sleeping directly after learning something new is beneficial for memory. What's novel about this study is that we tried to shine light on sleep's influence on both types of declarative memory by studying semantically unrelated and related word pairs," Payne says.

"Since we found that sleeping soon after learning benefited both types of memory, this means that it would be a good thing to rehearse any information you need to remember just prior to going to bed. In some sense, you may be 'telling' the sleeping brain what to consolidate."

I was thinking of the effect of, say, the ubermensch sleep cycle on studying, similar to what +Tom Cavil commented.
OK, I'm going to try this with the philosophy coursework for my degree, because it's so badly written that it pretty much puts me to sleep anyway.
Of course, the implication is that 9am classes are close to a write-off learning-wise.
Lol... too much studying, as well as sex, impaired memory and other things that I do not remember now.

+Prabat parmal I experience that same excitement and inability to sleep with a really exciting idea - but I think that is different than being in a study/memory mode.
+Prabat parmal no problem. I just think two different situation. If one is super excited about an idea you don't even have to work to remember it because it has 'excited' your brain so much you are unlikely ever to forget it. But when people go through more 'normal' material it seems to be a good idea to study then sleep.
