The national government is spending at least P20 million to repair one of the symbols of extravagance during the Marcos dictatorship before it was overthrown in a peaceful revolt on Edsa in 1986.

The Sto. Niño Shrine and Heritage Museum, which used to be known as the summer house of the late dictator’s widow, Imelda, had suffered damage at the height of Supertyphoon “Yolanda” (international name: Haiyan) in November 2013. It was sequestered by the government shortly after the downfall of the Marcoses on suspicion that it was part of their ill-gotten wealth.

The abandoned elderly and orphans find a new home in Pope Francis Center in Palo town in Leyte. According to the report of CBCP, the center welcome at least six abandoned elderly and one teen orphan are among the initial beneficiaries now staying at the Vatican-built Pope Francis Center for the Poor.

AFTER nearly three decades, Vatican has appointed a new bishop from the Archdiocese of Palo in Leyte.
Fr. Oscar Llaneta Florencio is currently serving as rector of the St. John the Evangelist School of Theology (SJEST) in Palo when he got the appointment.
Palo Archbishop John F. Du said he already offloaded the responsibilities of bishop-elect Florencio as rector, so he can prepare for his new role.

Following his resignation from the Aquino Cabinet, Vice President Jejomar Binay on Monday said there’s no stopping him from extending “personal” help to the families of the victims of the tragic Ormoc sea mishap.
In an interview with reporters in Ormoc City, Binay said he would still give financial aid to the victims despite supposed lack of access to government resources.
“Tulong na personal ‘to ah. Vice President ako ngayon. Pumunta [ako] rito para makiramay,” Binay said.

Officials of the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) must also be held liable for the sinking of passenger banca MBCA Kim Nirvana-B, leaving at least 60 passengers dead, a seafarers’ group said Sunday.

In a statement, Engineer Nelson Ramirez of the United Filipino Seafarers said Marina violated its own memorandum circular issued in 2003 when it granted a certificate of convenience to the motor banca that capsized off Ormoc City on Thursday.

CATBALOGAN CITY- A fatal vechicular accident which happened last july 1(Wednesday) at Kilometer 1, Barangay 13, City of Catbalogan. Based on the Police Blotter, the accident was between an Isuzu Chiller Van Truck of the Alwendas Incorporated and a Honda TMX Motorized Cab driven by Joselito B. Panican.
