As I pointed out to some friends yesterday when we discussed this BI slide show, the facts are counterintuitive, not controversial. Many of the facts rely conditional probabilities, which is counterintuitive to the average person. Conditional probabilities are never factored into our fight-or-flight reflexes--at least not consciously. However, if every person was given a solid grounding in statistics in high school, most of these facts would not be as controversial.

I am sorry to say that reading your article in the Business Insider is unbearable for a competent reader.

a) Get the meaning of the world "fact" right.
From the Oxford Dictionary:   "fact -  a thing that is known or proved to be true"
If something is proven, especially in Mathematics, that is a "fact".
If something is controversial, that's a "paradox" or "problem".
If something is controversial, that is not a "fact".
The phrase Controversial Fact, especially applied to Mathematics, is nonsense.

b)  0.999... with infinite number of 9s is not equal to 1.
It is infinitely close to 1, but not equal.
The difference between 0.999... and 1 is 0.000...1 which is infinite small.
Read Leibniz or any respected Calculus book.

...etc.
