More Brass Etching Finally figuring out how to game laser toner on brass for electrolytic etching. The latest three attempts still have issues with undercutting and weak toner adhesion. Going to tackle that with a hot laminator that will put some decent heat and solid pressure on the toner. Finding lots of good pointers on PCB and jewelry sites.
So far, I've been using a copper sulfate pentahydrate solution and bench power power supply in the 12-14V/4-6A range to get a deep bite in the electrolytic etch. I'll have to try the ferric chloride and see how it fares.
More Brass Etching... Made a batch of copper chloride this weekend to continue my quest for a reliable brass etching process. My main issue now is variation in the brass metal composition and etching depth. Still having a fun time with it all.
Instead of doing random test patterns on the first copper chloride runs, I decided to create something for a coworker whose cubicle is decorated in cardboard as a castle.
Etching Brass: First Run Paid a sign shop to make a vinyl logo for me to place on a brass plate to act as a mask for galvanic etching away of the exposed brass. There is only about 0.5mm bite into the plate on this one. Will have to be more patient next time and run the etch for a longer time...
Pierce's Pitt BBQ Decided I will smoke a pork shoulder next weekend, along with briskette and ribs. So I had to order a hat from the pitt that makes my favorite pulled-pork bbq with slaw ("Super Doc" sandwhich), Pierce's Pitt BBQ in Williamsburg, VA, USA. Maybe the hat will inspire me to create a close approximation of that awesome BBQ...
